Did I overcook it?

I took this snap on holiday in Venice with a new camera, not realising it was prone to over exposure. I really like it, but it looks a bit washed out.

I revisited it and made some tweaks to saturation and sharpness and was pretty pleased with the result

Recently I've been playing with some other ideas and came up with this. What do you think, have I overcooked it? Was I going in the right direction and just went a bit wrong at the end, or should I have tried another direction?

Many thanks

I like the last one. The only suggestion would be to replace the thick patch of smoke in the middle with more wispy smoke.

I would mask off the black vignette from her arm...makes it look dirty.

Hi Jen,

Nice! I like it a lot. I really like the color and vignette. But maybe lighten up her face and hand a bit to separate her from the background a bit more. Something like this?

Thanks all, that's given me something to think about :o)

I really like the look of the last one as well, but agree it's too dark in the wrong places, and I was beginning to doubt myself!

For me, what you have done tells a story - even if the story is 'boy I sure am glad I do not smoke'. Well done.

I like the last one too, but I think to really make the face and smoike in the foreground pop you would need to darken the building/background behind the smoke. I don't know how you could select the background without selecting the smoke. That would perhaps make a good challenge.
