I'm wondering why Sony does not put a real model name in EXIF header?

It looks like all Sony cameras put just a generic name "Cybershot" in place of model name. I can not think about any single reason why they dont add a real model name to it.

That would be a VERY easy thing to add if you could get into whatever is the equiv to the bios. Nice idea.

I wonder if having use of the tool used to correct the DLS would have the capability

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that the Engineering team sees EXIF data as an analytical tool for engineers, not as a customer feature.

i'm going to go out a bit on a limb here, and don't mean to set off a long discussion on sony's 'whys and wherefores', but...

sony is going for the consumer market (even if they make cameras that can be used professionally). they are rather unresponsive to requests for features that they perceive as 'professional level' (comment from a friend who works there),

i'd think that stating which cybershot would be viewed as something only pros or semi pros would be interested in.

to paraphrase a signature line i've seen here 'that's my opinion, and everybody has one'
