Well, I tried to price match at two differen't staples today and I didn't have much luck. I printed out several different web site's prices on the Nikon CP995 and off I went!

At the first one they flat out said "no we won't match this" they wouldn't even tell me why, I asked for the manager and didn't get him, I got some associate manager trainee who said that they wouldn't match it because the price was too low. I pointed out that the 110% guarantee didn't state any limits as to the amount they would match, he still flat out refused. I requested a refusal in writing and he refused that. I asked for a manager and he refused that stating that there was nothing the manager could do. I made a big scene pointing to the HUGE poster on the wall five feet from us with the 110% price match guarantee on it and then I left.

I went to a second staples and presented the same information to the woman behind the customer service counter, she looked doubtfull but dutifully called her manager who told her to verify the information, she called A & M and they are closed for the holiday so she turned me away also. At least the second store was a little more polite and gave me a legitimate reason for refusing to honor the price match.

I guess I will wait until Sunday or Monday and try again.

keep in mind that they do stipulate the product needs to be "in stock" by the company you are comparing. many places ship direct from their distribution source (I work for a large distributor in the technology world) and don't actually keep items in stock...thus no carrying costs....thus lower prices.

staples does ultimately have the right to decline the price match as policies like this are subject to change without notice.

Well, I agree that they have the right to check if it's in stock because that is stated in the guarantee. keeping in mind that all of these places say in stock until you don't order accessories I think it's a fair bet that they'll say it's in stock. Unless of course the idiots at staples say something like "I'm from staples doing a price match, do you have this in stock?". Also, Staples doesn't cary the item in stock, they ship direct from Ingram Micro (check the part number...it starts with an IM...I also buy from Ingram Micro a lot ).
staples does ultimately have the right to decline the price match
I think that if they want to refuse to match something they should include a statement in their guarantee like 'we don't match good low prices only local high low prices' or 'we reserve the right to refuse to match a good bargain' or something stupid like that, similar to what circuit city does.
as policies like this are subject to change without notice.
'Subject to change without notice' doesn't mean 'discriminate on a case by case basis' because that would be discrimination, Maybe they didn't match my price because I went into the store accompanied by a black man (my friend), that would be petty. I AM NOT STATING THAT THIS IS THE CASE, only that it would be petty if it were true. What that means 'subject to change without notice' is that they can discontinue the policy or change it on a corporate level without having to provide legal notice to the public, kinda like they don't have to take out an ad in the paper to say they are changing it, they can just change it, that doesn't mean they can change it in the store day by day.

I had the same problem with getting a pricematch because A&M is closed for the Passover Holiday. I called the 1-800-3STAPLE phone number. This is the "internet phone order number", not to be confused with the regular 1-800-Staples phone number. The first time I called, I was told that I could not get the pricematch because A&M was NOT an authorized Nikon dealer. I told the operator that I knew that the price was matched before, but she said that even though it was matched before, each pricematch is made on a per request basis. I tried a second time and the person tried to verify the price instead of "shooting" me down right away.

What I have learned by my own experience, and from this board, is that if one person doesn't give you the pricematch, keep trying to get it. It seems that Staples' policy on pricematching depends on whom you talk with. Also, call during the business hours, Eastern Time even though the 1-800-number operates 24/7, because that is when I received the my most encouraging responses for a pricematch.

Also, for those trying for any pricematch, there is a $40.00 off $200.00 or more "coupon" available good until May 21st. The coupon number is 74174. I was told that the coupon could be used along with the pricematch. :)

Geo, do you have a link or anything that I can print out that shows the $40 coupon? I like to have that stuff in hand and I can't find it myself.

My experience with Staples was very positive but then it always depends on the people and not the "chain". I however did not attempt to use an ad such as A&M which appears to be gray market and not full retail. Pardon me if my assumption is wrong. I had 2 ads, one from Priceit4less.com and the other from Buydig.com. Both were about $50 more than A&M but still $170 cheaper than Staples. But both ads CLEARLY stated the item was IN STOCK, and had FULL USA Warranty. I also added in the shipping charges ( Priceit4less was only $14.99 for shipping ). Basically I attempted to follow the Staples price match guidelines to perfection. Sure I could have gone the A&M route, hoped to have gotten a manager who would call them for inventory status, and someone who would not question the super low price, etc. But you get to a point that simply says HOW CHEAP does the final price have to be before I feel good about what I bought? I left the store $459.75 less rich due to my purchase.. this included taxes, shipping, etc and a very very easy price match. The manager on duty looked at the priceit4less ad, saw all the required information on the sheet, never once considered calling them and told the guy waiting on me to honor it. I know my deal is by far NOT the best one done for a CP995. But 3 days later I ahd my camera, no hassles, my blood pressure never raised and the entire experience was very positive! Just wish I had ahd the coupon lol!

I just wanted to clarify a couple points.

I had several ads with me at the time.

I presented all of them at the first store and he didn't even look at them, just stood there shaking his head saying sorry.

At the second store she was polite and said she needed to verify it, I showed her others and she still needed to verify it. I think she would have done it if A & M hadn't been closed.

the A & M ad clearly states in stock.

I'll try again in a day or two.

Does anyone have any experience pricematching on the Staples website? They have the same offer.

I've learned that the reputation of a store or chain depends mostly upon the person(s) you interact with when you go in. I know people who hate certain chains mostly due to a single bad experience. Is always too bad when people working in a store fail to understand this.

Sorry you had th bad experiince.. my experience was a very positive one and was quite simple. Staples policy though does state they have the right to call and verify the item is In Stock. My Staples just did not insist on doing so ( I had a preliminary invoice printed out, showing shipping charges, item in stock, USA warranty, etc ). Probably had more to do with the particular manager on duty when I was there than anything. I'm just glad I had good luck and hopefully soon you will as well!! IN all truth I did NOT expect it to be so easy and simple!

Hello everyone,

PAE... I do not have a link per-se for the coupon. I got the coupon info from a site called Dealnews. You can do a search on Dealnews.com for anything related to Staples and find the info on the coupon. Deal news is really a pretty good information site on prices, as is Techargains.com. BTW, I will be calling Staples for the pricematch first thing Monday morning, 6:00 AM PST.... :)

JDavis37... From another thread on this board, I KNOW that Staples already pricematched their 995 to A&M's price of $389.00. The person who got that pricematch paid a total of $370.00 for the 995. That's a super price!! You can do a search on this board for thread # 2440447. A&M IS an authorized Nikon dealer, the camera is NOT greymarket, and comes with a US warranty. As of Wed., before A&M closed for the Passover holiday, the camera WAS IN STOCK. I too have so far followed the Staples guidelines to "perfection". The only problem that I have had is that A&M has been closed and so their price could not be confirmed. If all avenues fail with A&M, I will then try with Priceit4less.

Geo... very much hope it works out at Staples on the Match. I had a different experience with A&M and won't elaborate as it may well have just been my experience. But in dealing with them they tried hard to sell many options I didn'tant and told me a USA warranty was about $100 extra, and would not verify it was retail box. Again I may have gotten the village idiot and thus made a judgement base don that. is why I orig did NOT say they sold gray market, just that I could not verify things in my experience! $389 is a GREAT price.... hope it works!!

I don't have a problem with them verifying it.

After another avenue for purchasing my CP995 went awry, I decided to try the Staples deal. I called the 800 number, and tried to pricematch with digitaldealz.com for $424 + 18 s/h (I too made sure that I was trying to compare apples to apples .. their website states 'new' and 'Full USA warranty'.) Everything was working fine until she tried to get the shipping information, which was behind a login screen (just name and address stuff, no CC numbers). As they were closed for passover, I gave her the name and pass I had used to get to the information, but it apparently doesn't save this information until you check out fully. She told me to call back later and try again, but was sure they would do it once they could verify the information. I decided to drive to the local store with printouts and give it a whirl. Within 5 minutes of entering the store, I was at the register paying for my camera. Not a single complaint.

Additionally, I picked up a "Digital Camera Accessory Kit" there that had a decent little nylon camera bag, 20 4x6 photo papers (and rebate coupons on more paper), lens cleaner and wipes and a extended warranty for the camera, all for $50. Normally I don't buy these things, but I figured that there are enough moving parts and risks with a camera to justify extended warranty. The salesman assured me that even accidental damage was covered and the typical claim resolution was merely a cutting of a check for the original purchase price. Seemed like a pretty good warranty to me so I bit.
I have a question... is Staples an authorized Nikon retailer?
I too looked for an answer to this, and the individual stores don't show up as authorized dealers. Staples corporate office doesn't register as one either. Ingram Micro also does not show up as an authorized dealer (from the 3 zips I could pull off of their corporate page). I would have to conclude that they aren't an authorized dealer, which is why I don't understand the requirment they place on other dealers. I could see it if they were an authorized dealer, becuase they could claim some "higher ground" or better service because of this status.

I am proud of the fact that I paid a honest price for a good camera and did not try to take unfair advantage of a good company who tried to be more than fair only to have every one looking to buy something for the lowest price try and shove something down their throat. Its people like this who are nasty to good decent folks just for a few bucks. I paid 699 for my 995 used the 100 rebate and didnt take advantage of anyone. Stealing is stealing wiether you are taking from someones wallet or taking advantage of someone for money.

am photo sells the camera at a cheap price without a charger, batteries, and manual and staples should not have to match a price against that type of bad business policies. Good for staples.

Im sure I'll get a nasty reply from many people but sometimes the truth is noy popular and sometime doing the right thing is not popular but one of our major problems is not enough people do the right thing anymore.

Don't let this get like the Sony forum where there's more posting on price matching than substance regarding the art of using the equipment. How you buy your camera, in my estimation, is your personal business. When I bought my Sony F707 I gave CompUSA, Best Buy and Circuit City a chance to price match but they refused, so I got it at Sears at a decent and fair price. Frankly, I don't give a damn if they paid you to take the camera out of the store. This and all of these forums should be about taking pictures, getting help with problems and furthering the art. Get your camera by any means you can, READ THE MANUAL and then get on the forum and talk about taking pictures. We have a Nikon CP885, so I'm qualified to be here and speak my piece. And I have. Don't let this get like the Sony forum where there's more posting
on price matching than substance regarding the art of using the
equipment. How you buy your camera, in my estimation, is your
personal business. When I bought my Sony F707 I gave CompUSA, Best
Buy and Circuit City a chance to price match but they refused, so I
got it at Sears at a decent and fair price. Frankly, I don't give
a damn if they paid you to take the camera out of the store. This
