I have been doing a little retouching of my photos in Adobe PhotoDeluxe and when I save, it saves it as a different extension. Not JPG. M problem is when I e-mail these to my family they can't open them unless they are .jpg

Is there a way to touch them up and still save them as .jpg files?

Thanks,
Peter --www.pbase.com/optionguru

I don't have PHotodeluxe on my computer anymore, but can't you do "save as" instead of "save" and change the extension to .jpg? (If you don't get a more definitive answer, I'll reinstall PHotodeluxe and see what I come up with)

Hello Peter,
You can click SAVE AS then select the file type JPG to save the file.

My Son has this software and he advised me that he does this as a normal routine.

I just tried and the options that come up for save as are .PDD & .PBD and I can't erase these and put in .jpg

Hello Again Peter,
It took a few minutes since I had to call my Son to get proper information.

Click on SAVE AS -- several options will appear but JPG does not appear at this time. Click OTHER (which is one of the choices that appears) then another line will appear. Click on the "small solid down pointer" and several choices will then appear. One of these will be JPG . Click on the JPG choice and it will then save the file as name.JPG .

Do NOT change the file suffix to try to save the file as a JPG. You must select the file type as described and this will then perform the proper functions to save the file as a JPG.
Hope this helps.

Don't use the "Save As" feature. Instead choose "Export" and you'll see a choice marked JPEG. I think it's on the far right end of the bar. That's how you convert these files to JPEG in PhotoDeluxe.

Yep. The export did it. I was looking in the save as on the top menu bar instead of using the save and export button wthin the program.

Thanks everyone.

You didn't mention what version of Photo Deluxe that you are using.

The Photo Deluxe my Son has is the Business Edition - so all of my comments relate to this version.

No problem. I am using the version that comes with the 2100 UZi.

Thanks again to everyone,

That always bugged me (among lots of other things) about Adobe PhotoDeluxe...my LEAST favorite photoediting program. In trying to make things simple, the made them unnecessarily confusing. I'm referring to versions up to 3...I didn't hang around for more.

This thread highlights one of the themes running through software (and web) development: "useability". It always surprises me when a large software company like Adobe violates good useability practices. (MS does this from time to time as well)

Essentially every product that bears the Adobe Photo* stamp, should have an identical (within feature limits) menuing structure. You learn one of them, you've learned them all, in terms of navigation and file handing at least. You shouldn't do "Save As" in PhotoShop and "Export" in PhotoDeluxe.

Good Morning,

There must be some major difference with the PhotoDeluxe you are using than the one my Son has. Please refer to my post(s) in this forum around 2 days ago. You can use the File -- SAVE AS part of this software. In fact, it is completely logical and has the advanced feature to select the degre of compression, etc; that is normal for logical software when saving .JPG files. CHECK IT OUT and I believe you will see that it works fine.

Rather than messing with PhotoDeluxe and trying to figure out how to convert files to JPEG, I would go to http://www.mediachance.com/pbrush/

and download a 30-day trial version of PhotoBrush. It's a much better program, one that rivals much more expensive (and complicated) photo editing software. At $38, it is one of the best software buys you'll ever make.
