Hi guys! Which is the better lens for shooting portraits (eg. head shoots & full body shoots) for both studio and outdoors? The new Pentax DA* 50-135mm or the Tamron AF 28-75mm lens?

I have the Tamron for my Canons and it's a good lens for studio, but if you can, go for the DA*. Just got it this week and have used it for several sessions, studio and location, and it works beautifully. Mine seems a bit sharper @ f4(of course) but just a lovely lens. With the k10 the images look so film-like with great color. I think you can't go wrong with either, but the DA* has a better 'look'. Have fun!

They are in different price range and focus length range. It depends how you use them. I use tamron in wedding and it captures both nice portraits at long-end and nice scenes in wide end.

Would the wider lens in Tamron 28-75mm be more suitable for taking portraits in studio?

Tamron 28 - 75 = 42 - 112mm F2.8

Go with the Tamron , wich is also cheaper and have a 6 years warranty.
