lucisart plugin?

It is located on their technical support page, but I guess only honest customers would ever bother visting this site?

(Or someone that is having difficulty getting a pirated version to work!)

I still say more power to them. Besides anytime you use a pirated or stolen copy of any program... you are putting your computer at risk! Don't think otherwise.

Actually it does nothing to the 'system' (aside of drop the registry key) it just keeps the plugin from running properly. This certainly isn't the first or last program that is timebomed/registry bombed/some other bombed to keep it from working if you don't have a valid serial. Its their IP, they have a right to try to defend that on some level.

I realise you might to think its real clever of them, or even
"justified under the circumstances", but in terms of computer
security its reckless and arrogant. The mere fact that they do this
makes me ask myself "What else might they do, feeling themselves
justified." Its an extremely poor practice, best left to
irresponsible kids and other malcontents.
I think it's funny that you write as if you know what they do but obviously you do not. All they do is write a registry entry, which any application has the right to do, and if this registry is present then the plugin doesn't work. Deleting this registry key then allows reinstallation. This deletion of a registry key, which takes 5 seconds, is what they charge you $100 to do. I think it's totally stupid of a company to charge a new customer $100 when the customer is ready to buy their software. It's a scare tactic but the problem is it's flawed because the person who would install the software using a key found on the internet doesn't know about the $100 reset fee. It just shows how incompetent the Lucis art people are at business.

Silence of the OP on the topic is a clear indicator that he/she is
indeed trying to use a pirated copy of the plug-in and didn't quite
purchase (unlike what was originally stated) legally. Hence, the
simple solution is - just get a legal copy and buy the key.
But he must first delete the registry key! ;)

Well it was obvious what...

You posted you had problems with LucisArts.

People pointed out that your problem usually happens when it's an illegal copy being used.
You got quiet for awhile.
Do the math... :) 2+2 = ?

I wonder if LucisArts contacted admin yet. lol :)

Like I implied earlier. I have Lucas art and the graphics of the interface are not that good. Slight changes to your picture on their preview screen dont look like much, due to the bad graphics. When you actually apply the changes to your picture thay appear to be much more drastic. You need to learn the interface and understand this. Go easy on the settings and you can produce some great results. It just takes some getting used to.

Here's a couple I did for fun. Nothing great by any means, I just wanted to see what the software can do.

Cheers

Actually, its even funnier that you assume so much. I do know how they do it. I know what a registry key is, I know how to find one, and theirs too, if I have to, and remove it.

Just because someone posts on a photography web site and knows their way around the photographic art doesn't mean that they didn't also write low level code for mainframes as far back as the early 70's.

There's a lot more to software and security than the Microsoft registry, or even questionable business practices.

At the end of the day I guess its a personal thing. Do you want to do business with people who act like this or not?

My choice is a resounding No. Your choice might be different. I respect that. You might do well to at least listen to why others think differently, even if you choose to treat them with apparent disdain.

The interface is terrible for the price they charge for it. The results vary too. I'm not a fan of it really. If you're picture needs that too look interesting, you're not taking good enough pictures.

Been doing 3d animation and post production for a good 15+ years and lucisart appears to be the new lens flare.

It has its place, but i see too many people concerned with it.

You say they should have a disclaimer during the installation, what are they going to put? WARNING: This program creates registry keys? Yet you go on and on like Lucis is violating your computer or your rights. All I'm saying is they don't do anything any other company doesn't do, all Lucis does is try to ripoff people by charging them $100 to remove a registry key.

Perhaps it could be argued to be fair and just, but ANYONE who
deliberately writes software that contains code that messes with my
system without informing me that they are about to make a negative
change will never get my business.
ah right, so if you commit a crime but don't know what sentence it carries, you don't think you should be punished?

the guy has illegally tried to use the software. the software wouldn't have "messed" with his system if he didn't do that

the software is also not "messing" with his system - it ONLY affects the program he is illegally trying to use
Most people refer to that as
malware at best, and viralware at worst.
no, you clearly have no idea about the definition of either of these terms - so please don't band them about in such a melodramatic manner

if you can't do the time, don't do the crime - so if you're trying to illegally obtain software and have no idea how to fix it if it all goes wrong, don't complain when it does !
