Just when I had to choose between the Canon 1D3 and something else...in came the Nikon D3...a FF, 12mp killer, with ISO up to the equivalent of 25,600!!! I can guarantee you that this camera does not have an alleged focusing issue! I am a Canon user all the way, but this sounds like a killer camera. It even tells you when you are tilting the camera off of the horizontal. Their newly released D300 is a 12mp, 1.5X crop, also sharing a 922,000 pixel LCD display which BLOWS AWAY the crappy 225,000 pixel LCD found on my Canon cameras.

Canon....WAKE UP!!!! Photo Man.

D3 and D300 pre ordered.

I used Nikon for years, but had to switch in 2003 for obvious reasons.

I am strongly considering going back, so why not pre order?

Hey, I understand that the announcements are really shocking, especially for a Canon owner like me! But, after some hours of brainstorming it's clear to me that it's not possible at this point of technical complication, decide without testing the REAL world: each single camera in action with a good lens. No conclusion could be made based on announcements or brochures only.

I trust in Nikon obviously, but before being totally shocked by their 25.600 ISO, I would like to see some shoots with my eyes!!! I remember very well for instance that the files from the Nikon D2X (announced end of 2004) were much noisier than the files from the Canon 1DMkII (announced on beginning 2004). So, before concluding that Canon is blown away by Nikon, I'll let the REAL gear to speak, not brochures.

1Mpxl display? Yes, it's a "nice to have" feature, but will it really affect the image quality or any other real feature? I don't think so.

Where I think Nikon today has without any doubt an advantage is on providing the best "all around" SLR kit: D300 + 18-200VR!!!

It does look like Canon got caught on the hop on this one. While they were out stuffing 21mp on a ff sensor, Nikon got a 5D sized sensor to do 11 fps (faster than the 1.3x crop 10mp 1D mkIII, not to mention the 3 fps 5D) with a much higher ISO, in a weather resistant body. They've been listening to all the complaints about the 5D, apparently... If I didn't have such an investment in Canon glass, I'd give this one serious consideration.

That should be an interesting camera!

Probably around 16mp, and with a decent spec body. (Im expecting 40D class features, plus a few extra tricks as well) That will be priced nicely between the D300 and D3, and offer more resolution than either. Actually Im hoping that Canon do something really cool, like price the 5D mk2 at the SAME price as the D300, but that is just wishful thinking.

To me , still the 5D is the killer.
But many of us appearantly have their own different killer.
Brilliant. Luxury.

Enjoying to try making better images again and again and ...

have to be bothered with your posts on this forum again.

That would be the best coup for us Canon users.

Bye bye.

No such luck. Sorry. But then again, it means that the entire forum will have to read your "contributions". Alas and alack. Photo Man.

As compared to your the sky is falling for Canon because a spec sheet has been released from Nikon that you perceive means that all that Canon equipment you and others bought are no longer good.

As compared to my posts, where I try to discuss contrast vs. spatial resolution, instead of some lingo you and others choose to refer to as IQ, etc. I post articles relating to both, but they get jeered by the likes of you. So why bother.

So, the bottom line, I will not miss your posts and will be very glad to see you move over to Nikon that I am sure you will love. Do me a favor a get your order in quick.

I agree. Plus many (myself included) made a promise to go back when Nikon had a FF camera.
few years later but still....

eheh I mean several years later LOL

I love the new Nikon offerings...it can only bring good things for Canon...imagine the following scenarios:

1 - New 5D with 45 focus points of which a lot are sensitive or cross type and can shoot more frames per second...weather sealed, antidust thingees

2 - Truly affordable full frame within a few years (especially if Sony gets in the mix too)

3 - Canon having to come out with new models that pack a lot of punch (though this year's announcements from Canon were impressive, just not as impressive as Nikon's IMHO)

Competition is great!!!

You are without a doubt, a TROLL!!!! If you do not wish to read my posts, you have the choice of simply not clicking on them. I do not force your hand. You don't read my posts and I will not waste my time reading yours.

For this reason alone, I will be here as a Canon owner for the next 50 years. Thanks for the ride. Photo Man.

The 5D can do all that and it has more megapixels!!! Ok, it doesn't to ISO 25600 but we don't know how well the D3 does either!!! And the 5D costs half of the D3!!! And 1Ds Mark III has two times the pixels!!!
I can guarantee you that this camera does
not have an alleged focusing issue!
And you surely can guarantee there will be no other issues, either! Because unlike Canon Nikon never makes mistakes with their new DSLR lines!
I am a Canon user all the way,

Sounds like a nice camera. On paper. Photos need to be seen, particularly high-ISO shots. If they rock, then we're into interesting times. Actually, we're living interesting times regardless, but if D3's high-ISO looks like P&S ISO 800/1600, the supposed advantage is gone.

Last time I looked DSLR images were not taken with the LCD. With live view, that is of course going to change somewhat.
Canon....WAKE UP!!!! Photo Man.
Photo Man....You are OVERREACTING!!!!

What is Nikon's competition to the 1Ds Mark III????? They now have competition for the 40D and 1D Mark III but I don't see anything to compete with the 1Ds Mark III. Certainly the D3 can't compete with the 1Ds Mark III. Maybe a D3X in the future. 12 meg is barely between the old 1Ds and 1Ds Mark II.

After my HORRIABLE mark III experiance I am going to TRY the D3.. But Nikon sensors, even one that is FF have allways been noisy..

If this D3 has to have LESS noise then the d2 since its the same MP and a bigger chip, BUT I want Mark III noise levels.. Then you will see my selling ALL my Canon lenses and going back to Nikon
