First bought a Sigma 30mm f1.4, but it has a dodgy focusmotor, so I'm sending it back. Couldn't wait to use my fast prime again and bought a second hand Nikkor 35mm AF F2. Very impressed, very consistent results, lovely bokeh, very usable at f2. But still hope to get my Sigma changed for a good specimen. You can't beat f1.4, now can you?

All taken with the 35mm:

You capture some great expressions in your portraits. In the third one I think the guy alone is interesting enough without the blurry face in the foreground; also if you got rid of her, you could get rid of the disembodied arm visible below her chin.

Abandoned train is just cool.

Thanks.

About the guy, I personally like the fact you can see he's looking at someone in front of him, almost intimidating her. If I cropped out that person, there would be a lot less content and 'story' behind the picture. That's my feeling.

If he was looking into the camera, it would have been a different story of course.

But I agree about the arm coming into view, that's a bit sloppy ;)

They are all great. Funny how quickly (I) forget that 35 is the old 50!

I have a 50 1.4 and it is wonderful. Having that little more distance to the subject does help keep them more relaxed, although you don't seem to have had any problems with that ;)
