This forum is lame. Just wasted half an hour scanning through all the new posts in the last day and the majority of them are pictures for comment.

I realize I said this before and was told to ignore the pictures if I don't like them. However there are so many that that it wastes my time to scan through all the posts that I would rather ignore.

I would truly like to help people that have technical questions about photography and the E-10/20 specifically, but this forum makes almost impossible for me.

I'm heading on over to the Pro Digital Talk forum. I gave it a quick scan and it's more to my liking. See yaahhh. I know, you say "good riddance".

How is it possible not liking pictures while still liking cameras? Sounds like liking cars but not liking driving them...

I may be in the minority here, but I think pictures are a very important part of this forum. I have a couple of main reasons for this opinion.

First, I feel that this forum is, in ways, like a camera club devoted to the E-10/20. We gather here, talk about our cameras and share our experiences. Part of this sharing is showing each other what we are doing with the camera. What good's a camera if you don't take pictures?

The other thing is I think posting pictures help people become better photographers.

When I look at pictures I can see what they are doing and get ideas. If somebody is doing something I like, I can try to incorporate it into my own photography. I can often critique somebody else’s pictures easier than my own. After seeing something I don't care for in somebody's picture, I can go back to my own and say "Oh no, I'm doing the same thing".

As I said, I have a hard time critiquing my own pictures. I can't trust my friends/family to give me good information. This forum gives me a place where I can post a picture and get a feel for how other photographers feel about it.

I think I've learned more here from pictures than from technical questions.

Not that I haven't asked or learned from technical questions, I just feel that the most advanced part of the camera is the eye and brain that sits just behind it. To learn how to use that most important tool I feel you need pictures, not words.

If this forum was devoted to asking and answering questions, no pictures (except as part of a question), I would not follow it. Seeing pictures is my main reason for being here.

My 2 swedish krona...

This was not a very good analogy. I'm a car maniac more or less, and I've got truckloads of books on them, and I know quite a bit about them. Start me talking about cars, and I will NOT stop, except if offered a beer or a glas of Jägermester. I don't have a car right now though, and I'm not a terribly good driver, nor do I drive that often, even when I DO have a car.

Except for this, I reallly like the pictures in this forum, and do not want them to go....

I always wonder why people make such baiting comments - particularily when they're leaving. I really like the images here - the combination of advice and demonstration is the perfect way to learn. Maybe VJS was just having a crabby life, er, day. . Davidk.

Oh yes you're absolutly right - actually there's too many postings as well ...
1) too many 'is the cam XXX better than Ole XXX'
2) too many questions where you can find answer just reading that D*MN manual

3) too many postings type of 'you are great photographer, brother' and replies 'you are better than me or XXX YYY ZZZ...'
4) too questions of should i buy this 3rd or 4rth or n-th party accessory, lens
5) too many self righteous obnoxious malignant postings 'Oly XXX sux'
6) too many postings I can not focus
7) too many postings whining 'Oly XXX is noisy'
8) too many posting saying opposite to 6 and 7
9) too many postings asking 'is this good deal'
10) yes and too many postings of great pictures ...

So what shall we do to this forum? ASk Phil Askey close this useless forum, yeah!!!

INSPITE ALL ABOVE I ENJOY THIS FORUM AND READ IT EVERY MORNING!!!

Thanks for all you members of this Oly SLR forum and accept my apology for above sarcastic outburst.

Happy Easter to you all.

I like seeing the pictures too, but I have a fast connection. Maybe people should post links only (I think it done by placing a semi-colon after the url). Or maybe we should include (IMG) in the subject line like we do with (NT) to let people know there is an image. This will give people the choice of looking if they want to.

I like pictures, but if I wanted to review other peoples work I would got to the "Samples and Galleries" forum.

I wouldn't mind it if the forum had a check off box that would hide all picture type posts, otherwise it wastes my time to pick through the chaff just to review posts that REALLY belong in this forum.

What about posting links instead of images, oooohhh what an idea. That way the image wouldn't load onto your screen just because you happened to click on the message.

You forgot one:
Oly E-20 is too slow!!

Now I'm being sarcastic ;)

I own an E-20N and am generally happy with it. The only minor complaints I have are:
1. Too slow writing big files i.e. RAW/TIFF which is all I use.
2. Shutter speed not fast enough, 1/640 just doesn't cut it.
3. Why would anyone use a mode like PS mode is beyond me,
why turn a $2000 camera into one that has the resolution
of a $400 camera. I know you get 1/18,000 sec. but it's
too much of a trade off.
Other than that it's a fine camera!!

I just joined a few weeks ago! I think I contributed some useful information in that time.

I'm LOL, I clicked on your nick, almost all your posts have embedded photos! Why not post a link out of courtesy instead?

good words trent,

forums are all what you make them, funny how sad some would be if this dpreview were yanked out from under everyone..

enjoy it all the good tha bad the Nikons and Canons :)

Suggest that the webmaster include a small icon on the forum list that indicates a photo is posted??? Vjsilva, you may also wish to consider that this forum is for both novices and professionals. many are proud of their work and wish to "share" with other like minds. We appreciate your advice, so stay with us!

forgive if this has already been suggested, but I am at work and don't have time to read all these. I propose that the person embedding a pic in their post put (image) in the subject line. Would that help? Or you can link to the image. I know this can be a problem for people with slower connections.

Thanks

I for one agree with just about everything Trent said...I, too have asked technical questions (at least "How to " questions)...Often time posting and having feedback can help me correct a problem...more than that, I think it is good to have an outlet...."Look what I found...Can you believe this?!"...and the fun of the various threads, "cat, dog, flower etc." It's just a healthy outlet where we can come and (as recently pointed out to me )
"assimilate...and become part of the collective"....Leslie"
--Leslie C http://www.pbase.com/lesliec

Only other idea I can think of would be to limit embedded images to just one or two......any more than that should not be embedded but just links. Also, quality......unless a image really stands out, or has a technical question behind it. The posts by some members of multiple (over 3 images) that don't have alot of compositional or technical quality followed by little stories could be lessened just for the sake of bandwidth alone! Is'nt that what PBase is for?

I think it's very cool that images can be embedded so easily here to begin with, and it's a nice feature of the forum, and often looking at other's work can be very educational and even inspirational. But all is good in moderation.
