Go for it Stuey. Ths IXY300 and the A20 have the same internals. Can you really afford the difference in cash for a stainless body?. Are you gonna play rugby with it or treat it with a little respect.

I've found the A20 to be a marvellous piece of kit and I wouldn't put anybody off.

Some of my shots, all A20....

I totally back Greg up on this one. I bought an A20 last October after much research. It is an excellent camera, and very easy to use. Here's a link to some of the pics I took with it.

I now have a G2, which gives me more SLR-like control. My interest in 35mm had faded, as when I moved there was no space for a darkroom. Digital photography has given that back to me. Go for it, mate.

I purchsed an A20 in August 2001 as my first ever camera.
It is a great starting point but be aware it has minimal controls.
I found that I quickly out grew it as I wanted more creative control.

One BIG advantage that it has over IXUS is that you can add wide/tele/close up converters, which allows experimentation.

Here are a wide range of shots that I've taken with the A20 and different lenses. http://www.pbase.com/jonlg/a20

I now have a G2( see other galleries) which has given me the controls, but a Digital SLR is now on the wish list.
Can't have everything I guess.
Cheers John. --~

Hi Greg,

I also have an A20 and have been considering upgrading to a camera with manual controls to have some greater creative ability. I was amazed however to see your night shots. I am relatively new to photography. What settings did you have on the A20 for these great shots?

All the best,

Terry

I agree with you. Eventhough I like A20, it's very minimal. Just use for 4 months and I need more. More flash, more zoom range, more mega pixel, more pix quality etc.

for stuey:

If you want A20- I suggest go for A40. Just for a bit of $$$ you can get video and more manual control. A20 manual control is fake.

But if you can effort, buy more than A40.
