Sorry for the off topic but I'm PO'd at UPS. I sent my camera to Olympus for some repairs. They were completed on the 18th and it shipped back to me on the 19th. I still don't have my camera.

I won't bore you with all the gorey details but I had to go down to the UPS office this morning to pick up the camera. I called them at 6:30AM to make sure I had the address right (it's in another city) and they gave me the address and checked to make sure that they were holding the package. I brought all my equipment with me figuring I could take some pictures while I was out. Surprise, surprise, they don't have the package and aren't exactly sure where it is. They "assume" it's on a truck trying to be delivered to me again. The lady behind the counter writes out a note stating that if the package can't be delivered today for whatever reason it should not be redelivered and I will come to pick it up tonight. The last thing I said to her when I left was, "Ok, I'll go wait for my package at home."

So here I am twiddling my thumbs trying to stay awake for the UPS driver when I decide to check the tracking info for the 1000th time. There is says plain as day they tried to deliver the package at 1PM! I'm sitting in my room with a wide open window right next to the front door and there is no InfoNotice and they want me to believe they tried to deliver the camera?!?!?

Many calls and emails later.... I get a call back from the UPS office. The lady quite annoyed with me asks me exactly what I want. Duh. I want my package. She then proceeds to tell me that we agreed I'd pick up the package tomorrow. Turns out she contacted the driver and told him not to deliver my package!

I just can't believe how easy it was to get the camera to Olympus, how quickly they worked on it, and now how f*ing hard it is to get the camera from the boobs at UPS.

to the wrong address! I have to call various neighbors to see if my package has arrived. I've even "stolen" my packages off of neighbors porches where the UPS person left them. I don't understand because they'll never just leave them at my house - always the little yellow note.

The one time UPS did end up at my door was probably the worst experience I've had with them. I ordered a bass guitar. The seller shipped it in a bicycle box with "Fragile" stickers all over it. I met the UPS guy outside when he pulled up. He flings the box over his shoulder and slams it down on my driveway with a thud and says, "Here's your new bike!" I said, "Actually, it might be your $1800.00 Alembic bass!" He started wiping invisible dust off the box after hearing this.

This is hysterical! I think the UPS man is somewhere taking pictures with IRC's camera...

That's terrible!

The only people who are reliable to my address is USPS. Everyone else screws things up somehow. I just wish more companies that I do business with would send things USPS.

If I sent the SM and the batteries with it I'm sure I'd find a picture of them mooning me with sound annotation of them laughing. Of course that's if they were smart enough to figure out how to turn it on.

I guess the reason they don't use USPS is because of that coveted tracking number. Wait, someone's at my door. It's "brown" dropping off a package. Hey, what's this! A camera? I didn't order a camera...

I ordered a vivitar cable for my 285HV on Feb 6th and it was to be delievered on the 12th. But as you can guess it didn't show up. After numerous calls and watching the tracking mixups I called the vendor and they flew one to me so I could go to Hawaii with my flash. It finally arrived on the 28th after having been redirected 4 times. It went back and forth in the South (USA) before some intelligent person figured things out. The suprising thing was is that is said several times that it was out for delivery. Must have been trying to drop it off at your neighbors house.--Leo

As a retired UPS driver I think I know how you feel.......but, you have to remember UPS delivers over 12 MILLION packages per day.......there are bound to be some screwups.

I have been in business over 12 years now and have never had a problem with their company, either by shipping packages or receiving them.

Here in 1982, because of fierce competion, UPS instituted the driver release program, which means, signatures aren't required on packages unless a sticker was put on the package. It has definitely caused some problems with loss claims, but they felt the losses would be offset by getting more production. And now it is more common to use part time drivers to stay away from paying the benefits. That, in my opionion, is a disaster.

Don't get me wrong, I am NOT defending the company completely, but when they handle over 3 billion packages a year..........s*@t happens. LOL

I happened to hire in at UPS in 1968 when they only covered a handful of states. I was proud to help build the largest transportation in the world. But, things have changed over the years.

I hope you have better luck in the future.......

I understand the volume they handle and how people have to hustle to get the job done. It is however far less than the volume USPS handles and at least for me handles better. At any rate, that's neither here nor there, today was the final straw for me on this issue and I needed to vent. I've been getting a half ration of sleep for the last three days to stay up for the drivers and having UPS do the exact opposite of what we put in writting burnt the last of my ever shortening fuse.

Yes, I remember that UPS era well.
The days of pride and high standards.
Heck, they even washed the brown trucks daily.

My package didn't arrive yet "My UPS" tracking said they delivered it.
We were home all day.

Of course that makes no difference because they drop and go even when we are home. Takes too much time to ring the bell and say hi.

So the next day, a lady a few blocks away, who received a wrong package from UPS and being a good samaritain, drove it a few blocks to the rightful owner. Who by-the-way, had her package. Not only did she have her package, but she also had my package. (Must have been the designated drop off spot for the day before) She then delivered mine to me.

So yes they handle 12 million a day, but what is the % of error?
This was 3 wrong deliveries on the same day within blocks of each other.

The worst service I get comes from UPS. I ordered my E100 from Fry's in CA. It took 9 days to get to Florida by ground. Fry's could have put First class postage on it and it would have gotten here faster and cheaper. They have delivered more damaged goods than I ever got from anywhere else. From now on I do FedEx or I buy locally.

Are you sure the problem was with UPS? Have you ever been to Fry's?? They wouldn't know service if it bit them in the a* !

I guess the reason they don't use USPS is because of that coveted
tracking number.
I've had USPS deliveries from mail order vendors that did have a tracking number (they use a 3rd party vendor) and online site to track its progress, though like the USPS at times, the web site was behind the times. I have had UPS screw up deliveries (including a check that I needed to get to a site overnight), and the local Mailboxes, etc. franchise always recomends FedEX (unless you can have it go at ground rates), even though the parent corporation for Mailboxes, etc. is owned by UPS.

The delivery service can only get better!

As the old joke goes, when FedEx merges with UPS, the new company will be named FedUP.

I followed the tracking, I couldn't believe that it took so long to cross the country. IF the tracking number info is correct, they were using Pony Express.

I've never had a problem with UPS or FedEx. They both are super in
deliveries to my house. I don't know what they do to apartments,
but no problems where I live.

FedEx tried to deliver my 2100 at 10 AM, while I was at work. Said they would try again at 10 AM tomorrow. Doesn't it make sense that there wouldn't be anyone here then?

I went to the terminal and picked it up.
