Godzilla vs. Bambi....39MP Hassy and D2X...(examples)

It'd kinda overcast and a bit gloomy here in Montreal and looking at that georgeous waterfall just about did me in!!

A beautiful shot with either camera - and I'd gladly trade either one for the chance to spend the summer there!!

And?! what would you expect?! Somethign different? the d2x is a 12 megapixel camera, the hassy is 39 megapixel camera, so yes, i would expect to see a difference in sharpness and detail from the hassy. This difference was always there between 24 x 36 and middle/large format camera's.

Thanks for the response. It will be interesting to see how this set-up controls such issues.

Please "torture" us some more if you get the chance.
and I dont have a clue...

I dont have the hassy at my disposal...just had a flash chance to
play while at the Japanese Gardens...

Matt?...you might be able to answer that....

Lihoff Techika , 6x12 Back, some Zeiss Rodenstock Schneider lenses good film stock then check out your highlight shadow graduations, then check sharpness across horizon then come back show us how great 2 1\4 digital is .It still has one major problem,Lousy Highlights . By the way I shoot only digial these days, Linhof, lenses &cams in the cupboard. PS you can even shoot good sunsets with it.

Being I am in to Torture of all kinds...LOL!!!

The printing company I use has a new 60" wide Canon printer and a NICE RIP to go with it....

Wonder what Hassy Files would look like printed at 60x80?

The H3D will do 30 seconds, I haven't tried anything longer.
I typically go to my 5D for super long exposures.

I can tell you, I've done hour long exposures on a H20 Phase One back, and it wasn't pretty. It was Nasty. I personally have never seen high quality images digital backs and long exposures. I think that enters into the realm of film and canon's camera's, given their aggressive noise minimizing algorithms and inherent design.

Also, you'd need some serious power for long exposures, that camera is hungry for energy ! Lately it's been quite hot out when I'm shooting, and you can hear the fan fire up on the digital back to cool it down.

I see the writing on the wall, Roman is still here but only in spirit. His heart has moved on to medium format.

Please remember use here at the Nikon forum and visit occasionally. :^)

You could pick them up for about a tenth of the cost. And get good highlights.Sure resolution looks great on the Blad. But the image has an overal ugliness ,yellow blue crossover, horrible shadow graduations and bloody awful highlights. When I received their calender this year I couldnt Beleive the quality of the color images,BAD,the BW's looked great
AS I said Pixal Peepers.

They aint much chop, thats why Hassleblad built a whole camera on the back of their wide angle lens The Super Wide. About the equivelant of about 24 on 35;super wide.

-I cant see much has changed with MF lenses, since the 80's most lens development has been for 35mm retro focus and now coatings.Good luck.Dont loose your freedom,-

Sorry for the confusion. I missed the image up there because it (flickr) is blocked by my ISP. I thought you were proposing to do what you obviously have already done. Again, sorry for the confusion on my part.

If you don't mind answering a quick additional question: Does running it through Flexcolor also remove the purple cast the original conversion has (quite clear on the water in the crop)? I ran Johnston's crop through Photoshop to adjust the color balance and it looked even better. I can only imagine the Hasselblad image must look absolutely stunning without the maze patterns and more controlled colors.

Original Hasselblad crop Image as posted by Roman Johnston:

My own color adjustments made on picture above using Photoshop:

Q: Did the Has cover the same angle of view in the full image, top to bottom, say?

Q: While the area of scene covered in each shot is about identical, was the Has chunk representative of 1:1 pixels as shown?

Q: A different approach: What was the field of pixel map --numerically-- in each close view you showed? Not the file we see, but the chunk you started with in each.
