I'm looking to get a good UPS for my Mac Pro, 2.66ghz with 5 gbs of RAM, and 2 hard drives. I'll also be hooking up a 23" cinema display.

The power output as I understand it is:

Mac: 6A @ 120 v = 720 watts
Display: 150 watts

Is this info correct? I was thinking of going with a 1500v - 900 watt UPS. Is this too much for my Mac? I recall reading under full load the machine should not exceed 400 watts but that doesn't sound right.

I like the look of the Cyberpower LCD UPS. I know that APC is also a great, well known brand. Any one have experience with Cyberpower that they'd like to share?

I have seen two main recommendations for a Backup UPS for Mac Pros:

APC 1500VA RS (not the XS version)
http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=BR1500LCD

The XS model seems to have power balance issues with the Mac Pro espicially after coming out of sleep mode while the the battery is active (no external power).

Cyberpower CP1500AVRLCD UPS - LCD Display 1500VA/900W AVR

Hope this helps.

I don't have a Mac Pro yet but I've been doing a a lot reading about Mac Pros in various forums. The consensus seems to be that a 1500VA UPS is needed. Some folks use 1250VA UPS and it seems to work OK in most cases. Many folks using a 950VA UPS seem to have problems.

I've read multiple threads over at the Apple Discussion forums about the Mac Pro putting a high load spike on a UPS when the Mac Pro comes out of sleep after the UPS switches to battery power. Hence, the need for a 1500VA UPS.

And a nice thing about the two 1500VA UPS systems that I mentioned above is that they have a nice LED display showing the current power load and amount of reserve battery power.

Enjoy life!

I have been using a Tripp Lite 1000VA model I purchased for a very reasonable cost at Costco 6 months ago. Mac Pro, 2 monitors, and a few other devices are hooked up. Has the voltage readout. Very quiet.
Highly recommended.
