These were taken in the east bay area near Danville, CA. About 50 miles east of San Francisco.

'Mount Diablo' is in the background in the first photo.
 
Nice shots. Come over to Clayton some time to get some shots of diablo especially in the winter when it gets snow capped. It looks more like a mountain than a hill from over there.

Which were taken with kit lens? I would like to see the landscape images in original size. Could you give me a link to these?

I think that given the right light (maybe different time of day - morning instead of evening or vice versa to have the sun on the other side), the first two compositions could work very, very well. Nice captures.

The third is a nice idea but needs some refinement to really work. IMO.

In any case, you're off to a good start (I guess it's a start due to your username :-) ).

The last two photos were taken with the kit lens (18-55mm). I will upload the original photo of the first one after I go home.

I agree that the first two compositions would look better in the morning. The mountain did not look all that clear in the photo.. I appreciate for all your feedback. Still taking baby steps into the world of DSLR, and so far it has been very exciting. I love the camera so far.
