Nikon Pros at MLB

Top one is the 400 f2.8. i really can't see the second one well enough.

I also saw several Nikons at the PGA championship on TV. They were using the 200-400. With the hood on, that is one impressive lens. Both to look at and to shoot with.

the last one is also a 400 2.8, just looks MUCH smaller without its monter hoods

Also, in that first shoot the camera and lens look to be well kept, I bet he owns his own gear, loaners do not look that way for more tahn a week.

Ray

I'm using my D2x for Little League, that count? LOL

I do recall seeing a Nikon banner at a ball game flipping threw the channels one night. And it should be interesting to see what the guys use at Williamsport for the LLWS. Seen some of the games on ESPN, seems to be a mix of Nikon and Canon.

Canon owns the NFL, so why can't Nikon own MLB? New for the NFL shooters this year it will be mandatory that they have the Canon logo on there vests. Do any Nikon shooters even bother to show up in the NFL?

I have been a few years shooting nikon at sporting events and getting money from selling the images. This summer (Australia) I have picked up contracts with 2 sporting codes that are usually Canon dominated.

The first photog is Mark Goldman http://www.sportsshooter.com/members.html?id=504 ; I'm not familiar with the second gentleman.

There's tons of skilled shooters covering pro sports, some use Nikon, some use Canon. Nikon shooters at Oriole Park include: AP, Getty and The (Baltimore) Sun.

Yes, they do. Next time I do NFL, I will make sure to have a large NIKON cap on!

The second guy is probably in the Daisuke contingent. Figure when I was in Philly the day he pitched (spring training game) there were about 3 photogs and 2 tv crews trying to push me out of my perch behind the home plate of the visitors bullpen. Got some great shots btw, took what I wanted then left the area, the japanese photogs were told they couldn't shoot where I was by security as they were stepping over live electrical wires, by a food stand. Oh well.

During a recent Sox game on TV, the Sox on-deck batters were standing right in front of the photog well. There were three guys using Nikon gear, and one using Canon. That made me smile.

I'm the photo editor for my college's newspaper, and shoot a lot of our sporting events. I've seen only one Canon shooter at one games (which includes our Division I hockey team), and the rest have been Nikon shooters. Canon may "own" some sports, but Nikon is prevalent in sports venues

Sometimes I wonder, who is shooting the photo, the camera or the photographer? I mean if the D200 is shooting a picture of a D2X, I guess I can understand it has camera envy. :) But why would a photographer go out to a baseball game to shoot shots of people using Nikons? It isn't an add and the shots are not happenstance they are deliberate. I guess that is why people buy a D200.

Has the "non pro" world been reduced to taking pictures of pros using their equipment. Seems silly. Just some food for thought.

With a large card in the camera, a few atmosphere shots don't go astray. I often pop off a few of the other guys shooting at venues, then offer them to them as a snap of their time at work. I have had the same done for me a few times. The poor old guy behind the camera is rarely photographed, should be done more often in my opinion.

I have read in this very forum that a pro would never use the strap that comes with their Nikon camera. An obvious tip-off to thieves of the camera's value. If these were real pros they'd use a plain strap so crooks would think it was a cheapo camera with a bargain basement lens from e-bay!

I have no idea why but I do it all the time :) even when I am working if I notice a camera in the crowd I wave and take a picture of them.

Sometimes its just because I wonder "what the @#$% ids he shooting from there?"

and other times they walk in front of me so I just assume they must want there photo taken :) (I could make an entire gallery of these!)

I have over 200,00 images on my server and about 4 are of me, so maybe I am just doing other photographers a favor, and I am not the only one!!!

I think you're joking, right? :) That "rule" isn't necessarily in the "what all pros must do" handbook that they give out when you start making a living. Personally, I don't use the Nikon ad straps when I'm in the field, but plenty of sports shooters I know do. The press-only sidelines of an event is not the same as walking around like a tourist in Rome.

Pro tip # 624: Write the word "Coolpix" on a sticky note and put it on the front of your D2X to throw the theives off. Ha ha! Cheers, Joe

I do the same thing... always like to scope out the competition... :) It is fun to look at what people use, and how they are shooting. And it breaks up the time spent shooting the action.

Yeah, just kidding. I just think it funny to believe you could do much of anything to conceal that those were very expensive pieces of equipment.
