I took my new E510 out for a test drive this morning, coupled with the Sigma 105mm macro lens, it looks like a great combo.

What do you think?

Comments/critique/guidance welcomed.

Thanks for looking.

Cheers,

Dave

Nice shot, I'm thinking of getting a macro lens that 105 looks good to me regards Alan, any more to tempt me.

What is the working distance at 1-1 macro?
--
It all started long ago and far away with a lowly OM-G

The OM of Getto cams

Thanks Alan.

Here's another that may get you interested in the lens.

Cheers,

Dave

Jim,

I believe the distance at 1:1 macro is 0.313m.

I hope this helps.

Dave

Your image is very good.

The reason you can't see the pattern in the eyes is because the subject was not close enough to the lens, the pic is not a 1:1 macro and was not intended to be.

Was your pic taken on your first use of your setup? If so, please post more of your images.

How strong was the close up lens you used?

Cheers,

Dave

Gary that is a very good image.

I'm impressed that you have no motion blur at that shutter speed.

There has been an almost constant wind in my part of the UK this year, it's made it very difficult to get half decent close up shots.

I'll keep trying and learning though.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment.

Cheers,

Dave

butterfly is that? It looks something like a Monarch, but not quite. Neither does it look to me like a Viceroy (Monarch mimic). It's probably one or the other I guess. Nicely done I might add.

lol! Actually I expected the Sigma must better than what I'm using now because I'm planning to get this Sigma 105 f2.8. Closeup filter is very hard to shoot because the paper thick DOF. I have to close to at least f14-f16 to get decent DOF. The focus distance is very limited to, with closeup filter the camera can only focus at distance between about 10cm to 15 cm. My friend bought a wide converter, after some day he could not get a decent shot with it so he gave it to me and I use the "macro" part of that converter for my closeup shot!

Some shots with that closeup filter:

Nice shot Dave, I like dragonfly but with 50mm Macro they I need to get closer so most of the times they escape!

this one was not afraid of human I guess

I think you'll find the Sigma 105 is better than the setup you're using now, it's a very sharp lens.

Any flaws in the image are the fault of the operator not the equipment.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks for your kind comments.

I had the same problem trying to use the 50mm for dragonflies, I switched to the 50-200 and had some success with it but I'm enjoying trying to master the 105.

I hope the E510's IS will assist as I shake too much when trying to take pics!

The dragonfly you've captured in your pic seems more interested in you than afraid, nice capture.

Cheers,

Dave

You are right, later it came much closer!!!

Actually on my leg,

That's amazing!

I've been lucky enough to have one of the small yellow darters allow me to stroke it's wing but I've never had on land on me.

I'm impressed that you had the presence of mind to take a pic.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks Dave, I was also shocked to see this reaction and I think they understand you are not dangerous, maybe slow movements make them trust! or maybe they like exploring,

I'll be that first to admit that I am still a novice at post processing my images so I've reworked both images in an effort to improve them.

I think it's worked and would appreciate your opinion, this is still a huge learning curve for me but I'm determined to get there.

Thanks for any guidance given.

Cheers,

Dave
