Canon's Pricing in Canada...Are you angry

That's why I started this post and am asking people to email.........we need help

No I don't expect a price change every month but, when you see a currency change of 13% over 1 YR and no price drop!!! If the other way would we see a price increase???

Please Guys, after reading all the posts below, do your thing and complain to Canon. Send an email..........

I cannot believe how many Americans on this board can be so misinformed about other countries. The reason the pricing is higher in Canada (as was already mentioned in this thread) is that there is lower buying power. Canada is like the California market, not the whole USA. The nonsense that is written here about government socialism, when the USA spends way more on health care not to mention subsidised farmers(Another USA socialism program) is incredible. If you do not know what you are talking about, then please refrain from adding misinformation to the usually excellent Canon forum.

I have had a running fued with Pentax as they have not dropped their prices since our $ went down 18% and they just said they don't care. Fine, I like supporting the USA anyway as doing business with my American brothers/sisters is usually rewarding. I also like B&H which is why I am buying more from them now. Since the USD$ dropped out of sight, most companies were caught off guard and decided to not pass on any savings for $$$ exchange. I am looking at moving into a Canon kit and may just have to buy from the USA, nothing wrong with that!

I'm not sure the pricing is different due to volume. Several years back when I worked for Kodak, Kodak US actually sold to Kodak Canada cheaper than we marketed the products for in the states by 5%. The volume up north was significantly lower than in the states too. 80% of our business was in Ontario.

only neighbors , the Americans, are sadly so very misinformed on many issures outside of their borders. That is why the ongoing problems in Iraq...GB did not understand the culture there doesn't necessariy want US style of governing and doing busness. The war has been very expensive. Hence the Chinese nearly own the US via money lent to our cousins, huge deficits; our dollar surges (hey, good for us shopping in the usa, ie. cams from NYC ). I guess in looking for excuses for our neighbors one can say that when you have long been a superpower both militarily and economically, it is so very difficult for Americans to get interested in actually understanding any other country of the planet. Kinda like a big city boy to his relatives some distance away. Don't understand, don't really care that much either.

Meanwhile, my cams and lenses come mostly from NYC. Oh, and I'm traveling to the land of Uncle Sam again tomorrow, to shoot auto racing. They are good at that too !! Cheers !

I suppose that it has something to do with the sales volume. Bhphoto
sells probably more then all resellers in Canada together.

Also, do you expect manufacturers to change their pricing every month
because exchange rate changed? Five years ago when the exchange rate
was 1.5CDN for one 1USD we were all happy to buy in Canada.
Not true! When the exchange rate was 1.5CDN for one 1USD, which was about 4~5 years ago, my 1DS was 7999 in US and 16999 in Canada (Vistek). Canon always maintain about 30% spread even after the exchange rate. And this has nothing to do with our government. On this front, we should be united so that we can get a more fair price from Canon. I believe Canon is reading this forum and if we keep deviate from the original subject, Our retailers will continue to be screwed from both end (Canon and our beloved government).
