The Good Life (S5)

Nice pic. I'm only wondering what ISO you used - because it has a fair amount of noise in it... Matt

... but with some PP that photo could be 'cleaned up' (and maybe levels/sat/USM adjusted) But it's still an OK picture IMO... Matt

Unfortunately we live in a rude age where saying something snitty rather than constructive is the easy cop out and shows how very very important we are. It is a rather nice little photograph, a bit light, could use a little contrast, a bit this and that: and the composition is not perfect, tighten it up a bit on the right edge. The partrol boat is distracting...those are consturctive critiques not an uncalled for personal attack....E

Hey folks here is a new one to fight over.
However before you do please read the EXIF.

I don't think it is so bad for a hand held, half a mile away from the deck of another boat similar to the subject sloop.

... because no one seems to be pixel peeping to me - that would involve 100% crops. Some are simply pointing out the the images are good but a bit noisier than usual even at the small size you posted them at. My images have been commented on/critisized as well from time to time and when you post an image here you have to expect comments - good or bad... Matt
BTW. The image was about people enjoying themselves, not about pixel
peeping.
Some of you need to read the Subject line again.

It's just possible that in the circumstances under which the images were taken had an effect on the technical quality.

My main thought was to show how nice life can be, nothing more. I should have taken that picture with my Brownie, that would have thrown all you folks out there for a loop. It would not have had that marvelous reach however.
Yes, I'm old enough to own a Brownie. camera.

No problem. I actually still applaud you for posting photos here. Many here are afraid to do it due to those '100% crop' pixel peepers out there. I stopped caring and post them anyhow and I have also 'cooled off' on pixel peeping myself. I just give my opinion on the posted images... Matt

... this shot is in trouble. Exif shows full 12x/432mm full zoom ISO100 - are you 100% sure you did not go over to the DZ side or boosted the In-cam sharpening without knowing it? because this image not only has noise issues but detail has suffered as well - it almost looks over-sharpened more than noisy the more I look at it. I've shot the S5 'full zoom' and normally there is a better result. And to be honest the difference between ISO80 and 100 is quite small in my experience. Anyhow I posted the image after NR and the detail is shot - I worked it but could not retain the detail in PP. Just trying to help it's not my goal to critisize.
Here's the PP result:
