Hi - Unfortunately the weather in the UK is pretty bad at the moment lots of rain and overcast so not great light for pictures. As some of you will know the weather has been so bad we have had flooding in some areas.
This is my local river on Saturday, note the handrails

2 days later you can just see the top of the handrails, the river came with inches of the top of flood wall as you can see, it rose almost another foot after this picture was taken

The local water supply was contaminated and 350,000 people have no running water. Military were brought in to sandbag a local power station so power was not not lost

and the fire service ran miles of pipe to pump the water out of the power station

nearby Tewkesbury was badly hit and thousands of people had their homes flooded

the news teams came

I was lucky, my home is ok and the power station was saved so most people have power now but there is still no running water so we have bowsers to get water from

and plenty of bottled water at the supermarkets

and the army are controlling water distribution

the floods can be seen from miles away. You can see how close they got to Gloucester, my home town

I know the pictures aren't the best but I hope you found them interesting.

Ahh, well done, I wondered when somebody would post some flood pics, we have been OK here (Plymouth area)...... I genuinely feel for these poor folk...what a nightmare (I usually dismiss most whinges as I always think of the millons in the world without food...but this is different)....More heavy rain tonight forecast too

Thanks for posting these....just hope we escape down here....try to stay cheerful

Thanks for posting those I found them very interesting, they seem somehow more interesting than what we se on the TV - I live in Hedge End - just outside Southampton.
  • so not too far away 50 miles? The H series does water so well !! :-)

Great assortment. I've been waiting for some UK flood pics. One question: What is a bowser?

Cheers,

Hey John...have a little word with the Chinese government, and ask them not to build any more power stations will you ?
I am sure they will listen to you :-)
Good reporting. Floods are no fun. I wonder what the future of
England will be, as the people and governments of the world continue
to provide the atmosphere with greenhouse gases.

Hi Kelly - it's just a giant water dispenser, they are filled from tankers several times a day, I have just returned from one with another 10 litres of water!

Ironic isn't it, the rain last night was not as bad as predicted so I am hoping things will start to get better for everyone now. The water pumping station is being tested this weekend so hopefully we will start getting some running water this week. I don't think it will be drinkable for a while yet though.

Martin;

To remove haze with PhotoShop, use the UnSharp Mask found under the Filter drop down menu. A good starting point is 40% for Amount & 50% for Radius. There is a preview window to see the effect (you can use this to see the effect of value changes when using this filter). I usually start with focus as the first step in landscapes (note that with the H9 this is of little use because of the firmware in the camera). Then the USM, followed by levels/ curves. The more pixels in the image out of the camera, the better this works (why I'm disappointed with the H9). I hope this helps you. Great images are Made, NOT taken!

Those are excellent pictures that show what really was happening from a person on the spot. We saw all this on the news but not as clear and not with such emotions. Thank you
