Just recently sold my D50 and got D200. Please recommend a fast CF card-reader, (either USB or PCMCIA) to be used with my notebook. I have Transcend 8G 266x CF card.

TIA

The Lexar pro Firewire 800 CF reader is suppoosed to be the fastest card reader in the martket today at 100MB/s.

:o) You are exactly right. That is the very problem I am having now. I can not get it to work yet with my CardBus adaptor.

There isn't a single card on the market that will do a 100MB/second is there? Is that some theoretical speed or what?

Ah, I see... I believe that is the theoretical (max possible) speed of Firewire 800 itself, which I don't think has any real bearing on the actual speed you will see with even the fastest of todays UDMA CF cards... Most likely will not ever reach that speed even in the future with any newer cards, the limiting factor is likely the controller that communicates with the CF cards, not the Firewire 800 itself.

Read the spec on the link above. 800Mb/s or 100MB/s. I think it is
a possible Max speed if you use the compatible CF card. But it is
possible, not theoritical speed from what I understand.

Yes, I really don't expect to get 100MB/s because my CF cards are quite old and I even have micordrives. But if I can get 400 MB/s or even 200 MB/s, I would be happy with it. The problem right now is I can not even get it to work. I think I will need a different CardBus that provide power to the reader.

Does anyone know of such CardBus?

Thanks
KT

As I understand Glenn tried to say you no CF cards exist now and no CF cards are predicted in foreseeable future capable so high speeds.

If few different speed devices are connected in series, the slowest speed device determines the speed of this chain.

100MB/s is just the theoretical max speed of firewire 800 and thus has no bearing on what you will see with real cards now or in the forseeable future - just as when they advertise usb2 readers they say up to 480Mbps which also has no bearing on real world results.

so we'll wait for a 400 MB/s compact flash card with baited breath :-)
I have read the 1394b standard does contemplate signaling speeds up
to 3200 Mbps.
