Hey everyone,

I've been a long time lurker at this (years) and this is my first post! Anyway, is it just me or has the the site gone downhill a bit since their Announcement of being bought by Amazon.com.

I used to look forward to all of their detailed reviews of new camera's etc. The passed few months, there's been hardly anything that I ever click on the homepage.

Considering the plethra of topics that could be reported outside of the just plainly this camera compared to this one..

Why not issue a report camera ccd's? Why not compare lens for dSLR's? Why issue information on digital noise and how to properly setup a shot in different conditions to minimize it?

Why not issue a "how to properly use a P&S" and suggestions for how to play with a scene or shot?

They hyped the Amazon as such a great opportunity and yet, IMO, the site if anything has worsen then gotten better.

too bad, cause i used to really like coming here. Now, I just jump to forum and read the Open talk, retouching forum and a couple of the others.

Digital rules.. Film Rules... why can't we all just get along.

I agree that there isn't much in the latest news and the Reviews are few and far between. I don't know what the problem is. Maybe everyone quit or has gone on vacation. At any rate, if it wasn't for the forums, I wouldn't even bother looking at this website!

There's a huge amount going on behind the scenes, but we've still only got three staff here and so nothing is going to happen immediately - we're currently interviewing candidates for the new posts, working on site development and reviewing cameras. The flow of reviews has slowed very, very slightly but will soon pick up again, and as for news - well it's a quiet time of year (but believe me when i say it's the quiet before the storm!)

We have a lot coming but everything takes time, we're putting a lot of new infrastructure in place and hope to have some exciting announcements over the next few months.

Sigh. Nobody has quit, and trust me nobody has been on holiday (I should be so lucky).

Agreed that the only reason to really visit these days is the forums, but then again, that doesn't have much to do with dpReview team but more to do with the community here.

Good to see you guys posting that something is going on but in this day and age, speed is crucial. I guess a little update from time to time would be nice after such a significant announcement.

Phil and Simon - thanks for your updates. It is good to know that everyone is pedalling madly to bring us a better site - even if we can't see the immediate changes. I understand that organisational change (especially where there are new owners) can be complicated.

Looking forward to seeing the results - and as a big dpreview fan will be visiting often.

Phil, why wait , give us the reviews of the upcoming Nikon's an Canon DSLRS, we know they are coming.
Those factories are a buzz with assembling them now, surely you have spies.

The Chinese have put copies of DVDs on the street before they were released to the public, don't let them beat you.

Hey, thats great news, so good things are coming... send the storm.

Live a honourable life, and in the future, when you look back you can be proud twice.

I like to think of social nostalgia as following a logarithmic decay curve. No matter what the time period, the shape of this curve is essentially the same. Things were always better back when. Things are less good nowadays.

If you're bored with this thing, go find a new thing.

I agree, DPreview is not as dynamic as it used to be. It almost seems like the staff has taken sleeping pills.
just kidding :-)

But seriously, they need to re-focus (get it, "re-focus", ha!) on their "prime directive", which used to be reviews.
So let's get to it guys! You were the best!

I truly enjoy reading the reviews. This site has offered us some valuable information both in reviews and via the forums. The reviews I find excellent! .. and of course there is nothing like going to the forum(s) and posting a genuine question at 2am, and having a solution posted WITH a full explanation less than an hour later!

I've gotten better and more in-depth information on this site (on more than several occasions) than I've gotten from the folks at Nikon.

It takes a lot to keep a site like this moving along (as I'm sure all of you know).. lets be thankful for the hardwork, forethought and well laid out site that Phil and the good folks at Dpreview have given us.

Keep up the good work!
