Poster for grandson

First, I suggest a MAJOR crop!

Crop to a fixed size of 14x16.

That crop is a little tighter than I would want, but with the background, this is the only crop I could get that would remove the extra garbage from the image. You might think about extracting that wall behind them and giving it a bit of a blur as well:

(Oh, and spend more than 30 seconds setting up your mask, unlike I did)

Either one of those will make a fine poster. As far as using GF to make it bigger or whatever, that would depend on the max file size you can upload to MSN. After the crop, it is going to be a little bit smaller. Also remember to be careful with sharpening on enlargments, they tend to show sharpening a little more than web stuff.
I would like to get a 14x18 poster made of this picture. I would
appreciate your advice as to what/how to fix it before I upload to
MSN photo. The original is (1536x2048 pixels). I have PS 6 and
genuine fractals. TIA

How about something like this? This was done fairly quickly in Photoshop, but if you have access to Illustrator you could make it look pretty good.....

Barry,

That looks great!! I don't have Illustrator. Could I get you to give me the work flow for this? I'm very new to PS, but, would really like to duplicate what you did.

Don

Pretty simple....just mask spiderman and your grandson and remove the background. Then I created a new layer and did a radial gradient (yellow to red in this case) and hand painted in the web with a small hard edged brush set to white. Next I did a Google image search and found the logo, selected it and moved it over into the other image. Since everything is on it's own layer, you can position them to your liking.
Hope that helps. If you need more detailed info just ask.

I would recommend 16"x20" instead of 14x18. More online photo places support it (as well as easier to find frames).

Crop your image into the correct aspect ratio.

After cleaning your image up, save it as an STN in genuine fractals. (or export to FIF)

Re-open the STN, and scale the photo to the size you want printed. (14 x 18, or 16 x 20 which is a more common size) with 150-240DPI
Save the output JPG with little compression.

This will be a pretty large file 4-5meg.

You will be better off using a photoprocessor other than MSN photo. I like to take Genuine Fractals to the max (300-600dpi in the exact print size) and just burnt he file to CD and bring it to a local printer. Though you may be better served with a company like Ofoto or Hyperphoto.

I just couldnt trust Microsoft with my photos. They may want to use them for some voodoo ritual to steal even more money from me.

Barry & Don - I just had to comment on how much I liked your work. Barry - your creativity and execution are both great. Don, you did a great job. Maybe you want to post the MSN site for a free poster. I took advantage of the offer too. It's only good until the end of the month, but others might want to take advantage of it - although I do agree with the earlier comment on Microsoft!
