Hello!

Some proggies like Morpheus or KaZaA are heavy infected by spyware (Gator or CyDoor) and install some "BrowserExtensions", which redirekt your mostly requested URL's to advertising PopUps.

To resolve the problem you only have to remove the 3rDpartyBrowserExtensions.

Simply clear the checkbox " Use 3rdpartybrowserextensions" in the InternetExplorer Settings!!!!

PopUp's it's your own problem, not Phil's!!!!!

Important: Restart of the Browser is required!

I don't see that under my internet options, but then I'm using IE5.5 v. IE6. I always try to stay one level back from anything Microsoft releases.

What about spyware finding and blocking software like these.

Under security I have a bunch of "use" stuff, like "use Fortessa" and "use PCT 1.0", but I don't see anything like that anywhere else in the advanced options or under any other folder.

It might not be the 4th item. In my setup, it is the 12th. Be careful disabling this. Clearing this checkbox will disable all third party extensions, including some that you might want, such as the RealPlayer.

Thanks! Useful information has been in very short supply on this forum recently.

Theres a program called History Kill which has a little Pop-Up Kill feature in it. I downloaded the program just for that feature alone and it works great. You dont even know a pop-up ever happened, it gone that fast. Only time i ever know it "killed" a pop-up is it flashes a small box in the lower left corner that says "Pop-up Killed". If you hate pop-ups like i do the program is a must have.

Scott,

The History Kill product sounds interesting. Can you post a link/URL to the History Kill product?

Thanks,

I downloaded and installed Ad-Aware and ran it to remove a bunch of components. However, it could not delete Gator for some reason. I can't even delete it myself. It says access denied whenever I try to delete it or send it to the recycling bin. Any Ideas?

Right click on the file and check the properties. Mosty likely it's read only or system. Just uncheck the selected attributes and try to delete it again. If it still says accessed denied the program is probably still running in the background, you might have to press ctrl-alt-del and try to figure out what proccess it is and then terminate it.
