Zeus - Anyone using or planning to buy?

Zeus was never presented as, or intended to be, competition to
Broncolor. Where did this come from?

PAUL C. BUFF, INC. NEW PRODUCT INFORMATION

Your own web site! The same page you announce the ring flash has modeling lights and fan "unlike the competition" . Only you came late by about a year after an other brand. I believe that's the same place Brokenpixel got to learn about the Zeus and that's why he knew it was not a batt powered pack.

Coming Soon…The ZEUS Ringflash and Power Packs
Sold By White Lightning and AlienBees

The ZEUS RingMaster

The Zeus RingMaster is a high power ringflash for professional use where very high power levels and exposure values are required. Unlike other professional ringflash units, the Zeus RingMaster incorporates 8 halogen modeling lamps that produce approximately 4600 Lumens (comparable to a conventional 300-Watt halogen lamp) and dual cooling fans for much higher usage than competitive convection cooled units that weigh three times as much. Two semi-circular 6-inch diameter flashtubes provide short flash durations and high power handling capacity. The Zeus RingMaster requires a Zeus 1250 or 2500 Power Pack for use.

The RingMaster includes:

the ringflash, the 10-inch ring reflector, a set of eight modeling lamps, a pair of half-circle flashtubes, the front cover / diffuser / gel holder, the universal camera mounting bracket

with adjustable camera platform, tripod and light stand mounting hardware, and the umbrella adaptor

The difference between
the 1200b and the 1200/AS is asymmetric operation and the wireless
control, right?
Well, size, weight, larger battery (different), upgraded charger, more
pops at any given setting among other diff. You can run Porty Premium
on the Charge in AC mode. I'm not sure if just the Porty b has dual
recycle settings?

To hack Hensel a little, their transmitter is Cr*p. its transmitting distance
is hardly worth the trouble. In go the PW for the real work. I posted before
or really, wondered, why the did not partner with PW? Bad move there for
whatever reason? I actually do use the AS features, so it was worth the
cost. Most of my daily weekday work is around town, so anything that fit
into one Pelican 1440 rolling case fit our needs.

No, I don't need..... modeling lights, fans or other extras. I don't burst
shots at full power. I have never used modeling lights even when they
were available. I know the reflectors and SB without using them and even
so, a look at the lcd is enough for adjustments.

I've been tempted to get a Hensel Porty. I've used one and I have a
friend who owns one, and overall I liked it. But, like you mention,
there's other factors to consider like technical support. Here's one
area that I have to agree that Paul is second to noone.
If you are truely expecting the stuff to break I would understand the
technical support issue and it's level of importance. If not have
back up and get what you really want no matter the name of the brand.
If the decision is purely economical with tech support the crucial
element in the decision, go for that, skip the back up. You'll still
be out of equipment minimum one day and I hope the lack of back up
won't hurt your business. In advertising, that could cost you a
customer.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I agree with you Benoit.

If not broken, do not fix, that why is good to buy quality first time, 90% of 100%
you get what you pay for, service is secondary, product is primary.

Have good one :-))

True, but for my friend in Canada, he can deal with AlienBeens in the same city 20mins away. Versus cross country and with such help as the email he got.

Paul stands behind his product, again, not bashing Hensel's qualities, but, gotta look at the overall bigger picture and take all things into account.

1. You can't even get the posts straight. You are mixing information provided to you by two different people.

2. When this thread started you thought the Zeus had a battery in it. Just another example that it really doesn't matter if it had a Hensel inside, you would hate it because of the PB label.

You are greatly encourage to read the entire thing. It starts like this:

ZEUS: Ringflash / Power Packs / Conventional Head for Power Packs
Read it - that wasn't about Zeus - it was about RingMaster which
certainly does compete with Broncolor ringflash. Boy we're getting
picky here.

OK, I didn't read all my own stuff completely, You have succeeded in your agenda of finding anything and everything you can to try to defame Paul Buff and his products. I can see the glee in your hehe.

Of course there is an element of competition between all power packs and all monolights and all ringflashes and all light manufacturers. To deny this is blind.

Just like Honda might say "200 horsepower and five cup holders - $14,997, BMW 720xxx - 190HP four cup holders - $66,600" That's a form of competitive advertising that is well founded and accepted. But it doesn't mean that it's an apple to apples comparison. It's a statement of specs and features and performance. (Here's another chance to jump in and say I don't have the models and prices right). If you want the Beamer, buy it.

But you guys always come along and say Ah Ha, the $599 Zeus pack is missing this or that feature I have on my $2000 Euro pack so therefore it's no good and anyone that doesn't buy what I bought is a fool. And I can argue all day it has features and performance your Euro pack doesn't and you dismiss it as useless info.

Hey, I don't care - I'll sell two dozen of mine for every one of yours and all of my customers will thank me (based on 25 years of my doing this).

So rant and rave and pick and slam all you want - it's not hurting me.

Everything else aside, I really like the little cart with the Bron Pulso attached to it.

Where's you get it? Sorry if you've already mentioned it, I missed it if posted elsewhere.

Thanks

Hi Paul,

I too enjoy the phenomenon you mentioned: "The more you moan, the more I sell". I have enjoyed my inexpensive and versatile Alien Bees. Thanks. These forums do tend to show the bell curve. With any reasonable product some are ecstatic, some are disappointed, and the rest are in the middle. An analysis of the messages indicates that your customers live in a hump on the right edge! Some like AP are not happy, but the more he complains the more it is obvious that the curve is in a very healthy state for your company. I enjoy your passion and your products. Thanks, -Bruce

Everything else aside, I really like the little cart with the Bron
Pulso attached to it.
Under the table is a Bron Impact for under light. It is mounted on an
old Gitzo.

The cart on the right with wheels is a DIY design that is custom made
to support an upright "monopod" pole. It is made from Army tent poles
which are 1.75 dia and have an inner fiberglass pole that extends up
to 7 feet tall. Inside that pole is a tripod center post for mounting.
The wheels are CareFree airless, the rack is an Army Molle pack that
is velcro to the frame. The cart is held together with 1.75 auto racing
tubing clamps from ebay. The tires allow rough ground and cushion
the vibration which is good for beach shoots etc. It is great for ad
work in narrow shops because everything is in one package including
the rising pole for the light. In studio, it can roll about to position
key light with a large softbox without raising, just rolling the whole
thing to the next position for quick directional lighting. I use it with the
table too when I need the light further back.

Army tent poles are light and can be configured into many useful
ways. All you need are a good selection of Super Clamps and joiners
to put two together.

The cart was a little expensive because of the tires and the 1.75 clamps
but it has proven to be worth the cost. I can't think of anyway faster to
move my key light with a large softbox nor its usefulness on assignment
in cramped shops and galleries.

Hey, you know how long some of us have been waiting to see just ONE of his photos? :D LOL!
I was right - it's now an AP thread. All that stuff for that little
bitty picture?!!

Actually, I myself thought it was rather interesting that it took a $3k Euro kit to compete with your $599 (well... around $1500 outfitted similarly) pack. :)

...and I hope I didn't open a can of worms by linking that product info. I wasn't getting picky or trying to discredit you. I had just remembered reading it myself.

I've got 5 B800's and one ABR800. Only one B800 broke on me ever. I dropped it once and cracked the housing slightly, but it kept on trucking. Two weeks ago I dropped it again (detailed earlier), and only now do I REALLY need to send the thing in. It's been working fine for three years so far without complaint. Only reason it failed was because gravity won that last battle. ;)
