I need some help. I want to purchase a digital camera to suppliment my 35 mm Canon film system. I'm looking for a 4 to 5 megapixel unit but can't decide which model. The more I read, the more confused I get. It will be used mostly for landscapes/nature and people pics. A fixed lense model is what I want. To those of you who own these cameras, which is best- Canon G2 , Nikon Coolpix 5000, Olympus E10/E20, or Minolta Dimage 7 ? Also, would my Canon 430EZ flash operate on the G2? --Dave S.

D7 is pretty awesome for landscape work. Check out my AZ and UT shots.

Dave,

I have a G2 and it is an excellent quality camera for all purpose shooting. It also will use the Flash although I am not sure of any features it would use other than firing. The 420ex and 550ex are the current models. You might check with the experts.

I have the 420ex and this makes the G2 a great inside camera. My interest is mostly outside nature shots and I have been very happy with my results to date with prints up to 12 x 18. I am not a brand person, but the G2 usually ranks as one of the best in quality, and I like its features and feel. I especially like the flip and twist LCD and the battery. (Nikon copied this LCD) If you like one of the other cameras feel and you need the features, they all rank rather well, then that would be the one for you.

Good Luck

I am in a similar position as yourself, after reading screeds of info on 5.0mp cameras I have it down to 2 models, I do a lot of inside or close-up work and so am opting for either the Olympus Cammedia E-20 which has excellent battery backup options and looks like a really professional camera, as oposed to the 1/2 price Minolta DiMAGE 7 which has a better focal range and has a 7x zoom but from a professional aspect is unbalanced and cheap feeling and looks?

The results are almost identical in resolution and quality yet the Olympus has a wider rande of optional extras i.e. lenses, baterry options, flash units, Compact flash and SmartMedia and Microdrive options, but as I will be buying this camera for semi-professional work it may be worth the extra investment to me but I feel you may be better off with the Minolta and 49mm optional extra lenses for Panoramic work.

All I can really say is good luck.
