Hello all,

Thanks to Canon Belgium, we are able to use a Canon D-60 testcamera.
It's serial number is MT00000116 and has a label "sample".
As soon as we got it today, we went out for a shooting - but the
weather wasn't to "co-operative" (grey sky, clouded, rain).
But we managed to get a lot of photos.
So, we put our first Canon D-60 album online.
You can find 800x533 (slightly post-processed) images with all the
Exif-info and also the "out of the camera" files when you click on
the 800x533 ...
The 28-135mm IS USM lens was used.
Well, I only can say "What a camera!" ...
Enjoy the images.
You will find the link on the Belgium Digital homepage.
If the link shouldn't show up, use your browsers "refresh" button.
The pages are put online some minutes ago.

Of course, more photos will follow ...
Did you take any inside with and/or without flash?

af is reasonably fast, i don't think it af-speed will ever be a problem with this camera. If i remember we'll try focussing it on flying bird and see what happens. I am curious for that to... Cars/trains etc are no problem at all.

Af works up to ev .5 contrary the 2 ev for the D30 (according canon) so low light focussing is well improved. If this camera lacks in behaviour/speed it's time to improve the photographer (joking :).

I've sent prints in to print at 50 x 67 cm. I should have them tomorrow. I also sent similar E20 prints in so i am curious. Must say E20 comes nowhere near the D60 sharpness/tonality/structure but that should be no surpise to anyone ;-).

happy shooting and be well,

jimmy

Jaja:

Thanks very much for posting those shots. Us cameraless (already sold the D30) guys need something besides availability rumors to hold us over!

The 28-135 really shows it's limitations with the D60, even more so than it did with the D30. To me, it always made my D30 look like I was shooting ISO400, just kind of soft and "hollow."

I shoot primarily primes (50/1.4, 135/2L, etc) so I am spoiled.

Anyway, thanks for the gallery!

Probably my ignorance, but don't these samples seem kinda dark,

and the histograms squished ? Quite a bit less deatil in the shadows, than what I am used to seeing from the D-30 ...

Hello Kevin,

I can't compare since I don't have (had) a D-30.

But the weather was terrible ... No sunshine, just clouds, clouds, grey sky and rain ... :-(
I will post more examples this evening.

Hy kevin,

you're absolutely right. Since ithese samples are the very first öut of the box" shots no ev-compensation was applied to evaluate the normal metering. I'm sure next images will look a lot better if proper adjustments are made :).

happy shooting and be well,

jimmy

Hello Tom,

That's another great news ...

We did 50x90 cm prints today using an industrial poster printing machine (I can't remember the brand) and the operator says that the quality of the D-60 images was way superiour to any 25x36 film ...
The posters were just amazing ...

Next week, we will do another printing series when this poster printing machine is setup optimal for the D-60 images.

Kind regards,
Jaja
I just printed these out using the Canon S9000 printer and you
would not believe how great these pictures look. Totally great.
It took more time to print when compared to a D30 image. It really
kicks the D30 all over the board.

Please post more if you have time.

Thanks,
Tom

Hello visualpersuasion,

Meanwhile I did, but I have no Canon speedlite.
I took several shots with the D-60 and the Metz 45-CL4 flash.
The D-60 in manual mode (using x-contact). Seems toi work pretty nice.

But tomorrow we have a major shooting with the Belgium Digital crew and a lot of flash shots will be included.
Now I will have to find the time to put all trhose hughe images online ...
But I will.

Kind regards,
Jaja
