Buying EN-EL3e or non-OEM

I don't believe that use would void the warrantee any more that using a Tamron lens on a Nikon will. The problem with third party batteries is they are on a whole just not as good as the original. I have used third party bateries in my D70s and have had repairs made by Nikon. They have no idea what batterie I had in the camera. Should a third party battery leak and stick in the battery compartnment and you send it to Nikon, then you may have a problem.

Bob, you are a psychologist, just pay the $50 and get a Nikon battery.

Even if you bought the D-80 used, you had to pay several hundred dollars for it, don't take a chance with a generic battery.

i have len-mar battery from adorama for the past two years now. no problem yet. as good as oem. you can buy two for the price of one oem. thanks.

A current magazine here in Germany lists the EN-EL9 (for the D40) as producing 1455 images before running empty. They list a battery that costs about half as much but which is only good for 1269 images. The latter is from AkkuShop.de who maybe ship abroad but my main point here is to bear in mind that third party batteries are often less powerful and will also therefore not last as long overall.

Instead of seeing your glass as half full or half empty - be thankful you have a glass.

I have a non Nikon battery in my D70, been using it (alternitively with the OEM one supplied) for 3 years. I have had no problems, it lasts just as long as the original.

You'll probably find that there is a factory that makes batteries, some get stamped NIKON some don't ;)

I know this happens in lots of other industries, I would not be surprised if it's the same for accessories like these.

And remember the battery recall last year from Nikon? Heck, you'd be pretty miffed if you'd bought one of them to avoid a 'cheap and nasty one' and it had gone bang in your camera!!!

First of all,, Think,, before spending your hard earnt money in RIP OFF BRITTAIN,

Second , you spent several hundred pounds on a camera, and you are thinking of puting a cheap battery in it, NOT a good idea, do a thorough search on the net, and you will find genuine Nikon batterys out there at reasonable prices, I got one 6 month ago for 28 quid , thats GBP to you, I found it on ebay, they come in a genuine Nikon Box silver and yellow, and it was about half the price of the local shop, Good luck

The point I was trying to make was with your profession you should be able to afford the difference between the Nikon brand and the generic.

I have used them in every digital camera I've owned, from the Coolpix 775, 5400, 5700, D50 and D40--with no problems.

That would be the EN-EL1, EN-EL3 (no-e), and EN-EL9.

Also, the BP-511 equivalent with a Canon when I owned them, same thing.

The point about it not being worth it in lieu of warranty issues and weighed against the price of the camera as a whole might be worth remembering, I don't know. I do know that I've used generics all this time with no problem, and I do think one should be able to get batteries outside of the camera brand if they choose to, without problems.

The point of the original post was to determine if there was a meaningful difference in quality between the Nikon and off-brand batteries. Just because someone makes a decent living doesn't mean that they should throw their money away.

I happen to agree that the Nikon battery makes the most sense in this case. But, the most expensive option isn't always the best option. I thought the original poster asked a valid question.

Bought a cheapy off ebay. Worked ok but no warning whatsoever when battery flat. One minute full the next totally dead!! My advice, Nikon only. Thats what I'll be doing from now on.

Buy cheap buy twice!!
