Hi,

I have just got my new canon s30 yesterday and I have shot a number of photos. Now, I'm not sure how to tyransfer images from the camera onto my computer. I have selected the snaps I want to transfer.....but after this I'm stuck.

The user manual does'nt have anything about what should be connected where to make the transfer. I tried connecting the USB cable from the camera onto the computer but could'nt find any slot on the computer that it would go into.

Can anyone help me on this???

RTFM.

In the box your camera came with was a shrinkwrapped package. It contains software (which has to be loaded onto the PC) and an instruction manual.

Step 1: Remove shrinkwrap
Step 2: Read manual
Step 3: Et voila - your question is answered.

If you genuinely don't have an USB port - please feel free to repost. But don't ask basic questions that are in the manual !

Great sense of humour :-), but the problem still remains.....

Not to be disrespectful, but didn't you know that it was a USB camera before you bought it? I think it is plainly stated on the box and literature.

You can buy a parallel port CompactFlash reader that connects to your parallel port and trasfer images with Windows Explorer. You could also add a USB card that would add 2 or 4 USB ports to your computer. This would assume that your operating system supports USB.

Don't let all the rude remarks by rude people bother you there are people here who want to help you..You need a USB card it's a sold at Best Buy also CompUSA and many computer stores everywhere..there simple to install and setup..I am sure you have a slot to install it in..then you can install the software to Transfer your pictures.

This just goes to show why you should get the details before you purchase. Why would you buy a camera that only had USB connectivity when you do not have any USB ports on your PC?

Going forward, you can purchase USB controller cards to add USB ports to your PC. I just hope you are not using an OS that doesn't support USB.

Go and buy a new PC or Mac. A PC without a USB would be too slow for handling the images. It is most likely one with Pentium II(may be even Pentium) dated back 5 years ago.

With this setup, it would be painfully slow to manipulate image size of S30.

What exactly is your configuration ?

Hello,

Just a little clarification on USB... USB came out on later model pentium-class motherboards. Most, if not all, of the Pentium II systems come equiped with at least one USB port.

Sambha, if your system does not have a USB port and you would like to install it in your system, make sure you have one PCI slot available on the motherboard and that you are using at least Windows 98 and up. Then all you have to do is go out and buy a USB add-in card and plug it into the PCI slot.

I've got a P3 system so the problem is not my configuration. I've got a Windows NT 4.0 OS installed on it. And I got a message saying that the s/w (USB driver s/w) supplied with the camera is not compatible with the OS.

Does anyone know if there are any fixes so that I can use the USB driver on an NT?

Sambha,

Unfortunately, NT4.0 does not support USB. So, even if your system has a USB port, NT won't recognize it. You might want to opt for a parallel port card reader as someone suggested earlier. I haven't used a parallel port card reader myself, but if you opt for one, you need to be sure that it comes with an NT4.0 driver.

Good luck.
