No stock yet, of course.
+ 18.95 to 24.95 shipping.

2199 looks high now.

Hi,
I was looking there yesterday. Wasn't that just the body, though?

I hope I'm wrong.--RegardsAndrew McGregor'We don't like their sound, and guitar music is on the way out.' -- Decca Recording Co. rejecting the Beatles, 1962.

I thought so at first.

When I clicked the item included tab, I saw batteries, adaptor, charger... everything are all there.
Availability in April also match the timing.

They say body available in May.

I was going to say the same thing, but it appear that B&H is cheaper by $200 for it's kits, but you can't pre-order at this time!
Here is the like any way:

Wing,

yep-I just checked the site. FANTASTIC news. People will be cancelling pre-orders elsewhere at a rate of knots when they find out they can get it cheaper at B & H.

Must be the same guy that put 'Hound Dog' on the B side of 'Don't be Cruel' Or was it the other way around?--Just my opinion, and you know what opinions are like. Everybody has one.EB

I think it's a mistake. I pre-ordered on sunday (first day accepting orders), and it's 2199 for the kit. I usually love B&H, but they said they'd be charging my card NOW, instead of when it arrives. Not so cool. But, since i got on their list early (first ten), i can live with those terms. If i were down on the list, i'd probably go somewhere where they don't charge me til it's in-stock.

If it does turn out to be 1999, i'll surely return and rebuy, if they don't just immediately refund to my card.

As I mentioned in the other thread like this one, I called B&H this morning and was told the same thing as Doug. You could only preorder this by phone with B&H, and you will pay 2199. Don't get your hopes up to high until you call them yourself.
At 1pm PST they told me 2199 for the kit.

That's not so cool of B&H! I love the place, wife and I went there last year, but we decided to look elsewhere for our D60!

Last I looked -- a few hours ago -- B&H still had D30 "kits" showing on the web site as being in stock (new/warrantied -- with one kit having the extended warranty thrown in for the same price; go figure) -- advertised for about $250 more than the D60.

The D60 "Item Includes" information notes only "1-year warranty." It's hard to tell if that means, literally, "body only" -- or if it means the description just hasn't been updated yet because they don't have the final word yet from Canon on what's included with the kit.

If it is the kit price -- kind of baffling, then. How is it that the D30 would be selling for $250 more ? Typo on the web site, perhaps?

Yep,

they have changed the item description. That's not very helpful of them. They should wait until they get confirmed information before posting it on the web site.

Who knows though? I've read that Canon won't ship Body only kits until May.--RegardsAndrew McGregor'We don't like their sound, and guitar music is on the way out.' -- Decca Recording Co. rejecting the Beatles, 1962.

If that's so, then the price shown now would have to be higher, no?

Unless, of course, that is the kit price.

In which case, the higher price of the D30 kit remains...mysterious...

It probably won't change for a while. Look at Ritz prices on the Coolpix 990 and 995. The 990 is 649 and the 995 is 599. Most places probably won't bother changing the price since everyone is focusing on the D60.

I've since received e-mail from a dealer who noted that dealer cost on the D30 is higher to begin with. I would guess that if the D30 were still in production, this wouldn't be the case.

So I take it the dealers have to sell their remaining stock of D30s, and they're not likely to budge on the prices, especially at those companies where they weren't making any margin to speak of. Perhaps if some dealers end up with a lot of D30s that won't move, given the D60's price, they'll change their tunes. (Would you buy a D30 if you could buy a D60 for the same price, or less? I wouldn't -- unless there turned out to be something seriously wrong with the D60 from a design standpoint.)

Strange situation. The dealer added (he meant it with good humor): "Get used to it." I'm sure I'll get used to it as soon as I figure out how . It's kinda...Kafka-esque. I don't regret buying my D30 when I did (late in the game), but anyway this all seems extremely strange to someone whose last SLR was a Canon F1 -- at a time when the product lines didn't change much for years at a time.

Nowadays it's as if we're buying gear that could be thought of on the one hand as photographic instruments...and on the other hand, as consumer-electronics devices that just happen to take pictures...
