Is there a Canon G3 coming out? I want to buy a digital camera but am torn between Sony DSC-F707, Minolta Dimage 7i, Canon Powershot G2, and FujiFilm 6900z. Do you recommend I wait for a camera cuz new ones are coming out or what? I wish I could afford the new 6+mp digital slrs but they are too expensive plus you have to buy [email protected]

It doesn't look like there is going to be a new prosumer model from Canon. Instead they released the G2 'black' Which is the same old G2 with a black body bundled with a 1 gig microdrive.

Hi,

Your ideal plan is to list for yourself perhaps the 5 features
you like/want the most. Then choose the camera which most closely
fulfils the wishes on your feature-list, plus whichever camera feels
best in your hands. That will be the one for you.

Unlikely that you will find a Fuji 6900 from a dealer/online vendor
but possibly on Ebay - of all your choices, my personal option
would be the Fuji, however, the successor ( Fuji S602 ) promises
to be even better than the 6900.

All of the cameras on your list are superb at some things and
not at others ... We all accept compromises, there is NO perfect
camera ...

Make your list, make your choice. Go for it !
Good Luck,
Keith

The easier plan is just to buy G2, and stop suffering, cuz thousands people all over the world choose it as the best non-SLR solution for its money, it has many features, even more than needed for avarage user, so just stop your choice on it. You'll not get anything better for this money today!

The G1 was released in October 2000.
The G2 was released in September 2001.
The G3 will be released around September-October 2002.

Simple, really. If you can wait another 6 months then get the G3 later this year (assuming you can actually get one when they are released, only now are G2s becoming easily available!)

Otherwise BUY NOW. like computers, there is ALWAYS a better camera just around the corner (within 6-12 months). but if you always wait, you'll never have the fun and satisfaction of shooting RIGHT NOW.

The G2 is a fantastic camera. My next camera will be a D-SLR, but for anyone who is a non-fanatic semi-pro, the G2 is an outstanding choice. Very highly recommended.

3 months, 6000 shots and counting!

If you are not a pint-and-shoot type, wait for D7i. It will have the same superb lens as the current D7. However, if you prefer to take pictures in a P mode, go for G2; it will serve you better.

G2s? Thus with black apint and microdrive? :)

Ye, thats what I'm saying to my uncle while he delaying with bying of DVD-RW drive.

Well, G2 is small, so could fit in your pocket, unlike any D-SLR, and it is easy to poerate, so you could give it to anywone.
3 months, 6000 shots and counting!
Ye, if you bought a digicam, you seposed to take as many shoots as you can, before it will become an absolite.

No, 3 megapixel 75 degrees matrix, and camera electronix that interpolates captured data to 6 megapixel image, and with special proceccing and thanx to 75 degree rows of the sensor, image is looking like 6 megapixel. But anyway, it captures only 3 megapixel of the information.
should be $800.
4 megapixel G2 is abput $700 new in box on EBay.

Just a litle side trakc.

As faw as DVD-rw go, there seams to be about 3 stabdards for DVD burnerr. The next generation of DVD-burners comonly called "blue laser DVD" have many large comanys working together on a comon standard. The release date is some time mid-2003 and promiss a 27 GB per disk capacity. Your uncle is not so unwise to wait, cause it seams like the dust hasnt setled yet in the DVD world. For the same reasons as quotes earlier, the dust just might do a lot of setleing by next summer.

Cheers

Although presented as fact it appears the above info regarding a G3 and release date are pure speculation. AFAIK Canon has NOT announced that there will be a G3 let alone anything about it including a release date.

I do hope I am wrong and that Canon has already announced a new G3 for the fall.

..as Canon have not yet announced a G3, nor will they for some months yet. I have no "inside information" from Canon, but you can make a logical and intelligent exptrapolation and be 99% sure they WILL announce a G3 later this year, to be released around september-october, based on previous release dates being 12 months apart...

this is speculation based on past events and i'm sure is gonna be pretty close to the mark.

yeah, maybe... but there's wildly optimistic, crazy-talk speculation (e.g. people claiming a Pro90 successor would be revealed at PMA 02 with 5MP, 10x zoom etc) and then there's reasoned, most likely-to-be-proven-true speculation based on established facts (previous release dates setting a pattern) which i am indulging in here...

i mean seriously, do you really think canon will NOT release a G3 around september-october?
I thought so. Speculation is speculation.

If you are not a pint-and-shoot type, wait for D7i. It will have
the same superb lens as the current D7.
Well, ain't so so superb, this "superzoom" lens makes pretty
visable abberation on the 200mm end.
How does it compare to the G2 at 200mm?
I don't know for sure, but guys that using it saying, minolta zoom sux. For G2, i think it is better, cuz zoom coeff. (x) is smaller. But I don't use this camera myself, so I cann't tell you sure, which one is better. Anyway, DMG7 has a 5 megapixel sensor instead of G2's 4, so it may capture more info. But those half-transparent mirror in Minolta is not making the quality better, that for sure. Why do you think they still use active mirror on pro D-SLRs? I think this movie-camera trick is grabing image quality.

For sure, a G3 will be released at 25-30 September 2002. Because there is the Photokina exhibition in germany. (www.photokina.de). So as the G series where released all years in september the timetable is perfect for the photokina exhibition.

It doesn't matter what you or I or anyone else thinks. Until Canon makes an announcement anything is speculation and not fact. Speculation no matter how likely should NOT be presented as fact. People can actually believe what they read here!

Danny, is a G3 at Photokina 2002 really for sure? Has Canon made an announcement formal or even informal to confirm this? Do you have some kind of inside information? Or are you saying this is "for sure" when it is only very likely or probable because of past history?

Do you see the difference between saying, "For sure, a G3 will be released at 25-30 September 2002." and "It is most likely (or even almost for sure) a G3 will be released at 25-30 September 2002."?

Do you see how someone could come away from reading your above stetement believing that there is no doubt that there will be a G3 this September?

Was your intent to announce that there is absolutely no doubt that a G3 is coming out this September?
