Hi everybody,

three weeks ago I was invited to make a shot for the cover of a varietys magazine. The theme for the main article was Pizza Restaurants. They didn't want anything that could be related to any particular restaurant... just a warm mood and the idea that pizza can be also a food for winter...

besides the shot.... I produced the hole scene myself, including the pizza itself...

Camera was the 20D with the 50mm 1.8....

light was provided by two studio strobes with 32"x24" soft boxes (one on the top, another on camera right) and a third studio strobe with orange gels for the background light

I did several shots from diferent positions... here are the two final I sent for the magazine to choose....

this folowing shot got the cover

The best part was to eat the model after the job was done he he he

Comments apreciated

Wow, suddenly my stomach feels much more empty...Looks really tasty....

And I love the way the cut slice just floats...

Anyway, other than the jokes, the pizza DOES look really nice, and to me the pics look awesome... Perfect kinda pics for a magazine..

Good job..

...vote for number two of your posted shots.

I get heartburn when eating pizza so it doesn't make me hungry. But the shots look nice and #2 would be better for an ad.

... yes... #2 was the chosen one for the cover because of the "less busy" blured backround, which contributes to the legibility of all the lettering of the cover, including the magazine name.... that was one of the goals on the shoot... to let room for text

Cheers

A pizza ta com uma cara otima - a foto ficou melhor ainda!

Translation: The pizza looks really good and the photo, even better!

Good job.

Very nice shots, indeed. Just goes to show that there's so much more to photography than just taking pictures... Well done!

The question is... how long was that sitting there getting cold and
manky?
Actually it had to be shot quite fast, before getting cold, otherwise the cheese would completely fall down and dry..... (thats why I like the #1 shot more, it was done first)

I did a number of shots in about 5 minutes or less, also because there was an assitant raising that piece of pizza, and she (my girlfriend) was starting to get tyred of the position...
Great photo! haha..
thanks

Congrats on the magazine cover.
Thanks
Although they selected the second
image for the reasons you explained, I like the first image even
better.
Me too, looking at the shot itself, I like the first better...
Nice composition, lighting and well photographed.
The shooting time was quite fast, but the creation of the hole scene, light ajusting/positioning, the preparing of the product, and the timing planing for the shooting (since it had to be fast), took me several hours................
not to mention the time necessary to go after all scene ingredients and objects

cheers

I know you mean well but please do not embed my images into the
forum. Thanks for respecting that.

agree, the "click" itself is just the end of a hole preparation (sometimes just mental preparation).... of course we all have those instant lucky shots sometimes but then, I cannot depend on those for a living....

cheers,
