I've been using the E100rs to take action shots of tennis and paddle tennis, and some travel shots too. I've just put up a new web site of some shots taken at a professional tennis tournament in Indian Wells, CA. This site features 59 shots taken with the E100, 13 Quicktime animations assembled from E100 burst sequences, and 2 Quicktime animations shot directly by the camera. The 13 'assembled' animations play at 2/3 real time without sound. The 2 animations shot by the camera play at real time with sound. If you are condsidering purchasing this camera, this site might give you some idea of what you can do with it. I'm still making mistakes and learning how to use it. The URL is:

Thanks Cleave - what is EVF? Just looked thru my manual and couldn't find it. But I did find a bunch of things I forgot the camera could do!

Thanks Nelson. I'm going to keep shooting with this camera until I feel like I've learned how to use it. And that might take a while!

Mike,

EVF is Electronic ViewFinder. I do better with an optical image rather than an electronic image.--Thanks.Cleave

Mike,

Sorry I didn't see this one yesterday. Those are some really great shots you got. I'm very impressed with what I've seen from the E100 and your animations truly show how fast and responsive it is.

Thanks for sharing your site with us...great work!

Doug -

Thanks. I enjoyed shooting the pictures and putting up the site, though it was a lot of work. The E100 is fun to play with. I'm sure that my images will get considerably better with more practice. There are lots of capabilities to this camera that I'm either not using at all, or not using properly.

Hi Mike,

I've been reading your posts and looking at your Tennis Photos, and you are getting exactly what I know I will get one day, but I don't want to wait!!!!

I've had my E100 for a month now and I have been taking lots of pictures during practice and still not getting the kind of results I want.

After reading and reading and reading and trying to comprehend what the manual is saying, I am still at a loss.

My daughter is a Soccer Player and we are going to Ocean City MD this weekend and I would like to come back with some photos that we could post on our web site.

You and I both know that there are 5 Menu Screens and then 3 additional Menu Screens in the Mode Setup menu. Would it be that difficult for you to list your settings for each Menu screen and then tell me what to set my dial to on top, as well as what I should do with the Drive and other button on top.

I know I'm asking alot, but this would be a huge help!!! Here is a sample of a photo I took this past weekend. You'll see I need mucho help!

Thanks for your time!!!!
Darlene

I'm at work and don't have my camera with me. I'll tell you what I remember. If this isn't enough or you have follow up questions, email me at [email protected] (my email address at home). I am very active with the e100 these days. Have been pouring through the manual myself lately.

It's an iterative process. You read the manual, take some pictures, study the pictures, then go back to the manual and try a different combination of settings. I'm still experimenting with different combinations of settings.

Keep in mind that tennis is an easy sport to shoot. The action takes place in an enclosed area with nice clean backgrounds. The players are in predictable places doing predictable things. It seems to me that soccer would be harder to shoot.

I shoot almost all of my images in burst mode (they call it sequential mode in the manual), with pre-capture on, at 15 frames per second. I've found pre-capture to be crucial to getting good stroke seqences. I use spot focus and am still experimenting with the light metering modes. It seems like spot light metering got me into some trouble, so I'm staying away from that on my upcoming outings. I shoot at medium to low pixel resolution (1024 x 768), which allows me to get more images on a memory card. Plus I'm not interested in making prints.

This is all that comes to mind right now. Maybe it will help you get started. The camera settings that work well for tennis might not be the best for soccer. By the way, the picture you tried to post did not show up.
