I heard from Canon that they offically stopped production of the 30D. They are gearing up for the "40D". Will be in stores by Q4.

They will also be winding down the 5D production over the next couple of months.

The only thing that would make me wanna 'upgrade' would be:
  • ISO 3200 as good as current ISO 1600 = yeah right
  • 12mp = yeah right
  • 1.3 crop = yeah right
Things I could care less about:
  • more than 5 fps
  • 3 inch LCD
  • 10mp
  • dust removal system
There WILL NOT BE A 40D this year folks! Now go back to bed...

The 30D successor will be due 18 mo. after the 30D (none of the xxD successors have been more than 18 months apart), which is September.

Wow, you joined DPREVIEW today just to post this single message?

Wow, thanks Jimmy!

Yeh, a first time poster who just joined today. How surprising.
Not too sure about the 'first time poster' part...
There are many posters whom been banned and came back as new posters...
All they need is a new email & IP address...

True, enough. I can only go by the number of posts and "Join Date"
under his current name. Is there any way to tell if someone does that?
Moderators may be able to see from which IP-addresses posts are made. If you're on a dial-up phone connection you probably have a different IP-address each time you log on. But if you're posting from home DSL, home cable, or work, your IP address can stick for weeks or months, which lets moderators compare and see if previously banned individuals are back under a new name.

At least, theoretically they can. Moderators do look at IP-adresses on photo.net for example. Whether anyone does it on dpreview is unknown to me.

I think the question about D50 was meant to be tongue in cheek...

Yeah... but maybe that just means the person wants a little anonymity and joined under some new name just to distance themselves from their true identity...

If I remember correctly... there is one person that pops up once every six months or so, just to give off some surpisingly accurate information a few days before the official Canon announcements... perhaps this person is just another knowlageable person who doesn't really want much tying them to anything of any significance...

but then, most likely the person knows nothing.

The best thing that could poke you in the eye....is your viewfinder.

It was an interesting enough message, but stating the obvious. You would need to have been on Mars not to know that the 20D MkII (30D) is due for replacement this September. The model run out and production re-fit is obvious too.

He could be genuine, but it doesn't really reveal anything most of us couldn't already figure out for ourselves. It is about that time in the cycle for the official rumours to start emerging. A brand new poster is usually the one to do it.

When the MkII came out there was a guy called 'superpeter' who started leaking like crazy in the run up to the release with specs, images, and he would dispute some specs being touted by others. He was spot on, and was preening himself on the release day, but when the MkII was panned the language of his posts changed, and they sounded like they were coming from Canon Japan, not USA as they originally did, as the English was a bit strange suddenly. His last couple of posts were pretty much damage control, and trying to say how good the MkII was, then he just disappeared altogether and hasn't been seen since.

Maybe the OP is 'superpeter' MkII. But who really cares?

Wow, What a bunch of haters reading this.

I'll prove it to you.. Walk to the big retailers and ask them if they will get any more shipments of the CANON 30D.

Then come back and talk.
