How do you deactivate the Continuous Auto Focusing mode on the 995? I just want it on single. The battery life is terrible using continuous, and the sound is driving me crazy! Thanks

You can disable continuous autofocus only in Manual mode.

Set the selector switch to "M", and press the "menu" button. Scroll down to "focus options" on the second screen, then select "Auto-Focus Mode". Then pick "Single AF". Now the camera will focus only when you depress the shutter button half way, but only in Manual mode. But when you switch back to full Auto mode, it resumes full-time focusing.

I believe a bigger drain on the battery is the LCD monitor. Turning this off will have a bigger effect on battery life than disabling full-time autofocus, I think.

I don't like having the LCD on all the time because it drains the battery.

On my Olympus 2040z, when I took a shot, it displayed the photo while it was writing it to the SmartMedia, and then after that displayed it for 2 seconds and shut off until the next picture was taken. Is there a feature like this on the Nikon CP5000?

Yes there is Norm, it's found in the cameras SETUP menu under MONITOR. Choose the REVIEW ONLY mode. In this mode the monitor will only briefly display the image after a shot is captured, and will then turn the monitor off again.--CP5000, OM-2n

If you turn off the lcd when in the auto mode it will turn off the continous focusing. Just use the viewfinder to compose. Don't know why they designed it this way.
