I am considering buying a CD300, and have read this site religiously for the past week, or so, but have not found any discussions/information about this camera. I know I could get the 707 for only slightly more $$, but

I like the idea of the CD media. Also, I have owned an FD71 for several years, and the CD300 feels a lot like what I am familiar with.

Does anyone have experience with the CD300? Good? Bad?

Thanks for any input you can provide.

I actually purchased a CD300 first brought it home had it in my hands for a few hours. hated the way it has to be sitting perfectly still to format a new disc.. I wasted three disc before I ever got one to format.. I thought when I bought it.. That it would be a great thing as the media is so cheap.. . Once the picture has been taken you need to be very still with the camera as it is just like a cd player in a car any bump will cause it to skip.. and a skip while writing a pic will forsure leave a bad pic.. Plus the downfall that I saw was it was same price as the 707 and the s707 is higher megapixel

The CD300 is a Mavica.
Lotsa Mavica (CD300 owners) hang out at

Ken,

The CD300 is a GREAT camera! It's superior to the 505/707 design in a pro's point of view. Mine and others that I know of have never skipped. I've formated and finalized while running to shoots and have never had any problems.

...add the external flash (bounced) and a lumiquest softbox and you've got a hand held studio quality system.

I use the CD300 more than my pro SLRs.

Take a look at some of my work on my website at:

http://www.photographictendencies.com

Look at the "press photography" section of my portfolio for images made in bad lighting situations....

Hope this helps....

Hi Ken,

I have had my CD300 since June and I am to 95% happy with it. What I don't like about it is that it's a slow camera, there is a long time lapse between shots and the focus feels slow too. But as this is my first digicam I don't really know how fast other digicams are. I am VERY happy about the CD-media, that's also the #1 reason why I chose it. And even if it's slow (don't even consider buying it if you want to use it for sports) it takes wonderful pics.

Here is a link to a forum that's only discussing the CD300. You will learn a lot there.

Happy shopping,

Eva

I have never heard about anyone having that problem. I can't believe it is a problem. If you are riding in a car on a bumpy way, you just pull out the CD and put another, already initialized, in. You can always finalize the first one later. I just put the camera on a table, the initializing is over in a couple of seconds, the finalizing takes longer, maybe a couple of minutes. No big deal.

I always initialize a couple of CD's in advance, then I can put it right into the camera and start shooting again in a second.

Indeed, I am having the CD300 now for a short 8 months, and I never experienced any problems with the CD. Yesterday, I formatted a CD in my car, when the engine is running..., without any problem.

If you experience soo much problems with the CD, it might be worth checking it by a local sony dealer...

One drawback with the CD300 however, I find that formatting the CD takes too much time, Windows XP formats a 650MB cd in 45 seconds...

Wait a little bit more. As prices are dropping for the CD300, because a CD400 is to be released very soon by Sony.
