I'd like to try Shay's great idea for getting a level hoizon by applying a grid to your LCD via a plastic overlay.

The Fellowe's ones are $24.95 at Office Depot, which is pretty steep, so I've been considering alternatives.

1. "Static cling" decal sheets -- where could you find blank ones of these? Even better, blank ones that could be ink jet printed!

2. Low-tack blanks, like those for oil change centers (only a tad bigger and clear)

Any ideas on sourcing these things?

Maybe try some Palm Pilot screen protectors? The only downside ot these is that they are a bit textured.

Yep, i have Shay's grid, all nicely printed out .... the good news is that I bought a pack of protectors sized for my Palm, 16 of 'em for $10 including shipping. I'd planned to cut 'em to fit the Sony... I don't use my Palm that much!

The bad news is that it turns out the same folks make the covers PRESIZED FOR SONYs, for $4.50 for a pack of 'em. Here's the link on ebay:

I have another suggestion. Instead of just doing a level horizon
line, also do the rule of thirds on your LCD protector. That will
give to three tools to choose from:

1. the rule of thirds
2. a level horizon
3. true verticals

Thanks, Callisto, that looks like the way to go. When does sailing
season start for you?
The picture I posted in the current chalenge was our first race of the spring series. I had to rush in early so I could take some pix of the other guys still sailing. We had three races and I took three bullets.--Callisto http://www.pbase.com/callisto/

Let me know if you ever want a trimmer or cockpit hand. I'm too out of practice for mast or fore and too crippled up for grinder.

Just got some of these via EBay (for $4.50 - Dutch auction) - they're very good. Don't even notice that they are there on the camera. I was rather worried about scratching the LCD on a $1000 camera.

Thanks for the heads up.

I bought one for the PalmPilot, thought that I would change it once a year, however, after almost 2 years, it is still good. and I forgot if it is a bit textured. I paid about HK$15, and I only used half a piece.

Turns out that the LCD protectors avail at the auction below are now being sold 12 for $6.95 plus $1.60 for shipping.

I called the company directly (303-823-5073 or online, http://www.strongengineering.com ) and ordered some for my S75. I can't imagine that I'll need 12 of them, so I'm splitting them with a buddy who has an S85 - six of them last me a while :-)

It sounds like a great product, I'll let everyone know how they work out.

I bought a bunch of static cling sheets at Sams club last year on sale. I print them and use them to design my doorway to my classroom so they can be printed on. I think they are available at office max but are pretty expensive there.

I highly recomend the mini protector from da products only $8 with shipping. http://www.daproducts.com , I had one on my S75 for over a year, it never fell off or got any scratches. Bought one for the 707 and fits fine.

Thats the first thing i did to my camera and sony camcorder LCD's, I had some (actually many) left over fom my pocketpc.

Another Idea. For those who cant get it right away or need some quick-fix alternatives, try this.

Cut 4 thin strips of 3m transperent double sided tapes and stick it all around the LCD on the edges and then stick a transperent Slide show presentation transperent sheet or clear holders on top. It will help you get through the "searching" phase without scratches and thumbprints.
