which camera is best

hello im a novice but would like some info on the right camera to buy i want a camera that i can point and shoot but more importantly i am into motor racing and would like to get nice shots of moving cars i have been told that i need a eso400 with a 75-300 lense now as i said im a novice so all i want is to get a good picture that i can get enlarged if wanted without to much loss of quality thanks for all help buget as little as poss but upto £300 paul

If there is a camera that can do all of that for under £300, everyone would be using it. If you want to do some serious photography it will require skill, expensive equipment, or both.
If you just want to point and shoot, any decent camera will do.

If you want fast action, good quality, and enlargements you will probably need/want a DSLR. They are not cheap, not easy to use, but require skill and knowledge to use.

You need to narrow down what you want to do, how badly you want to do it, and if you are willing to learn how to do it.
That's just my opinion.

You could investigate the Fuji S9100/S9600 and the S6000/S6500. They are a long away from ideal, but your budget is, as pointed out already, a major problem.

I don't shoot motor sports myself, but I recall seeing shots of motor sports events as part of a review of the S9100/9600 on Steves-Digicams ( I think ). Certainly with some practice I think it can do that for you.

Bare in mind reviewers are experienced photographers, so they can take shots like that, whereas, as a novice, you might find it difficult. The usual recommendation of a book on photography is appropriate.

For motor sport you'd be better off with a basic DSLR, like a D40 ( unlimited continuous JPEG shooting ).

I'd suggest asking on the Fuji forum to see if anyone actually does use either camera for motor sports.

For me the camera which is best is the one that will get used the most. Everyone is different and has their own subjective issues...no one can tell you what camera is best for you and what you wish to use it for. One thing I can suggest is try as many different types as you can...even rent a camera if you can and try it out. I myself was going to buy the Nikon D50 till Nikon discontinued it. I looked around for mionths and almost got the Canon XT or Nikon D40. Eventually I found a Pentax K110D with 18-55mm kit lens online for $397 and could not be happier. It works for me and for the price I'm not concerned taking it out in the field with me. So far I take it everywhere I go.

For action, consider cameras with OVF. Optical Viewfinders are great for tracking action in real-time. Canon A710IS should be your cheap & best bet.
