Went in to buy film this morning, and walked out with a new K10 as it was the last day on sale. So, my istD is up for sale. Just shot a wedding with it today. It has about 8400 shots run thru it. It has everything that came with it when originally purchased from B&H, including the box! Anyone have any idea the value of this great camera?

Can't wait to fire up the K10!!!

Got it at Pro Photo Supply in Portland, OR for $849 (Body Only) with a 1 GIG card. How does that compare with what other people have paid for a K10?

Two weeks ago I paid $775CAD + 6% tax + $30CAD for Express Shipping. Brand new with a two-year Canadian warranty from a shop in Toronto. All brand new in the box.

Sweet deal in my opinion.

In my search for a new K100D, I noticed that AbesofMaine.com has the K10D body + a 1GB card for $790 before the $50 rebate, for a net price of $740. No sales tax and free shipping if you are willing to wait for ground shipping.

You can get the same setup for maybe $75US less online, but you have to deal with questionable vendors (see a post or two above), fear of the unknown, and zero over-the-counter service. Since you don't pay sales tax, I think you did fine. Plus, you support a local shop and have an ongoing relationship and service. That's good to me. Over a few years of use, that small price difference becomes irrelevant.

In my case the difference wasn't small at the time, I saved roughly $325 (and one less tax). I like to shop locally when possible but I refuse to get gouged that much...

Good to know they're carrying Pentax gear now! Enjoy the camera - who cares whether you could have said more/less. (you could let them know you found it for less elsewhere - assuming you could return it - and see if they'll match the price. That's what I did when I got mine - Shutterbug gave me a $60 credit back - I hadn't used it yet though at that point - I was experiencing some buyer's remorse that is SOOO long gone now.)

I agree. It's nice to have a store here in PDX supporting Pentax. Hopefully they will get the new glass in soon! Also, I plan to use my Best Buy Guarantee on my AMEX card to get the price down even lower. Add in the rebate, and I should get down pretty low.

Anyone have any idea on the value of my istD? At this point, I will probably just keep it for a backup, or for my wife and kids to use. :)

I really want to get a Pentax K10D But I'm trying to find the best price for what I want. I also would like the Grip and an extra battery... Right now I only have older M42 Screw mount lenses. I've got about 15 of them... I like the idea of the starter lenses and the option of the Tamron 70/300mm zoom/macro... I know it's not going to give me the BEST performance but it's something to start with as far as updated lenses that will work in auto. Something to give me a break for when I just want to have auto focus and not have to work so hard with the older lenses...

Given the Package on Amazon at a price of
Price: $1,249.95

What do you all think of the combination? I've priced a few different places and this seams to be very comparable if not a good deal.

Let me know what you all think...

Thanks

Citizen's Photo has been supporting Pentax since I got "back in the game" - I got both the FA50 and DFA 100 macro there, as well as being tempted by the 10-17 and a flash (which I ended up getting elsewhere, when they had been purchased by the time I got around to buying). They've got a number of staff who have both new and old Pentax cameras and lenses, so are supportive of the brand. (SE 7th and Morrison)

Don't let the package or perceived deal drive your choice. Determine what your requirements and budget are and then make the smart choice.

Are you a prime lens shooter, a zoom shooter or both? Of your M42 lenses, are any worth using, or are you wanting to go totally auto-everything?

I think that you could purchase separate components that would be a better fit. Especially on the non-photo accessories.

I shoot 75% prime lenses, but do enjoy the Tamron for social settings and sports. It's not great but still a bargain, but you can get that for

I sold my *istD body about 3 months ago for $330 on ebay. It had about 5600 shots through it and was in excellent condition. I sold it to fund my k10d purchase. I wish I wouldn't have sold for purely sentimental reasons, but I know I wouldn't have used it much once I started using the k10d.

Cameta Camera sells them brand new on ebay for $450 or so, so I think anything above $300 is a good price. But given the overall cost of this hobby, if the $300 isn't needed to fund something else, you might as well hang on to it.

I thought about selling my *ist D when buying the K10D, but I'm glad to have hung onto it. It is nice having a second body that is worth less when shooting in situations that could damage the camera. The *ist D is still be in some low light situations too.

If Pentax comes out with another 6mp body that uses the same battery as the K10D then I'd be tempted to purchase it as my backup.
