Would like your opinion on the first photo. The 2nd is included as way of explanation. We raised the gourd, dried it, painted and hung it. The wrens took advantage of it for their home and the 2nd photo shows mama on the nest

In the first photo, papa is nearby loudly proclaiming to all other birds that they have claimed the territory for their own. You can see, I was a little emotionally involved, and may see more in the photo than is actually there. I rather like the muted look and colors. I'm considering enlarging it, but.....would like for you to give me your opinion before doing that. TIA

I like both photos. Very nice.

Would I enlarge the 1st photo? Personally, no, and that is just my taste. I don't think there is enough variety of color. Mostly all green, with some brownish/red in the bird and a few of the leaves. If I was going to blow something up, I would opt for a photo that was more colorful.

Again, that's just me, and is not a reflection on your nice photos.

Thanks for your response. Honest opinion was what I wanted, and that's what you gave me.

--I like the second picture very much Joan. I would work on the contrast and color saturation a bit. I find that when I use the shadows/ highlights sliders in PSE5 I get some great improvements. I think it will come out very nicely.

Joan, I have to disagree with that first opinion. I never gave the subject much thought until the recent challenge when the topic was "dominant colour", but I discovered I really liked those photos. I love the way there are so many variations of that one green in this photo. The bird, the branch and those reddish leaves are so nicely framed by all those green shades ... except for those big leaves on the left. I can't help feeling they are too big and overwhelm the little bird a bit too much. But otherwise it's great. Focus and exposure look very good, so I'd say go ahead and enlarge it.

I really enjoy hearing a thoughtful response to one of my pictures. Thanks to each of you. Interesting also that the responses vary that much.

Hi Joan, I too think these are good shots. And IMHO, if you like it, enlarge it no matter what anyone else thinks. I actually like the second shot a bit more, but then it has that "awwww" quality that always gets me.

Thanks, Bonnie. I know that is the correct answer--but I do value others' opinions. Thanks for looking.

Nice images Joan. I like the colors in both, with the wren and the darker leave offering a nice contrast. Hope you don't mind, I cropped it a bit here to, in my mind, focus more on the bird but keep the other elements, too.

I'm happy for you to do that, Ken. I think that's what Carol meant--the larger leaves detracted. Thanks for looking.

Frankly, the first one is not a large wall-hanger due to several aforementioned issues. The second one is better.

However, the second one also has a lot of leaves of roughly the same color, with the bird as a rather smallish intrest-focus. I think this would benefit from a creative mat, like an oval or rounded-off corners, with a large feathering distance.

Thanks, Bill. I think I'll crop it down to use for a postcard. I still like the way the color and texture of the wren seem to complement the new reddish colored leaves.

Hello Joan.

I think the first image (that was the one I understood you wanted comments on) has a green cast. Try to play around with the end-sliders in the individual color channels to get rid of it and add contrast and more truthful colors to the image.

Here is a link to what I mean: http://epaperpress.com/psphoto/index.html . Click on color correction and then levels.

It will make the bird stand out much better.

But, the whole thing is of course up to what you want to convey. Just my personal opinion.
