D60 international prices please...

I am not a lawyer or customs person (IANALOCP?), but often times the prices vary from country to country (as well as are higher in most of Europe) due to import duties and other taxes, as well as shipping and distribution costs.

This would explain why the camera is cheapest in Japan (where it made), and most expensive in Europe (not the farthest place from Japan, but definitely (esp. Scandinavia) heavily taxed).

Just ask Canadians who buy hard drives and CDRs :)

This seems to be happening every time. Both in cameras and lenses
(and a lot of other stuff).

For kicks, here is a link to the VAT rates of many European countries. This only touches the tip of the iceberg WRT pricing levels:

Hello all,
I thought It'd be interesting to compare international prices on
the D60 as there seems to be quite a difference. This might get
messy, so please reply with the following in the topic:
Country, price in local currency, price in dollars
Body of message could contain link to retailer or wherever the
information is from?
By the way, I just spoke to Canon here in Denmark, and they
wouldn't say a thing about the price - even though they admit that
the camera will be on the market within a month.

Cheers,
Hans

Any idea when the d60 is supposed to come out in Japan? I'm leaving for Japan on April 10, and it seems like it would be cutting it a little too close for comfort to pre-order one here and hope that it arrives before I go.

Thanks...

angela

My store said late March. That said, you might not want to bet on getting one in Japan on April 10. First, the guys at the store might not know what they're talking about. Second, Canon might announce a delay. Third, the first shipment might ship in late March and then immediately sell out. It could take a while before there are cameras in ready stock again. Look at the 1D.

Good luck!

They gave no estimated date for arrival.

The talk in the local forums is a range of march 25 - 28 as the first date available for sale.

Although it seems that they might be on sale by April 10th, but I would caution you that there are also wait lists over here for the product.
