solid shots... very solid. I'd recommend a diffuser however, there's a really cool one I picked up by Gary Fong's Lightsphere II. Pick up the amber dome for better skin colors in darker areas like a night club. I think you'll be pleasantly suprise at much much less PP you will be doing.

some nice shots... good work!

i do, however, think that some of them have been PP'ed to hell (IMVVHO)

best of the set here is the girl with the cigar.

nice work again...

those shot's aren't that great...

way too much PP work, sharpened way too far! Your flash could have been anything that had ttl - even the sb400 would have worked here.

(although I don't like the cropping on that last one)

I think mine were around 1/4-1/20th ttl with rear flash iso1600 or 800 (I forget, should be on the exif)

in other news, it depresses me when I think about what some people have done in the world, and here I am sitting on my butt talking about digital cameras... There are more important things I could be doing, and there are more important thigns going on in the world. Too bad we can't take all this energy and apply it to something useful.

Just an opinion....not even an educated one.

I don't care for what I see in the majority of these as a very harsh contrast. The skintones appear greasy and too made up. The flash I think would have been better diffused. The highlights are glaring loud and the dark areas are just black with no drop off.

The one with the girl huggin' on the black fella I do like. It stands out above the rest, IMO. The girl with the cigar is great subject matter and the crop is perfect. Would be a fantastic image if not for the harsh contrast.

Only other critique I have is the web logo "watermark", is very distracting and I think really takes away from the overall appearance. I think it should be there, just not so BIG and loud.

The poses, show you have a rapport with the subject. I bet it was a good time taking those shots. Nice job really, just a little heavy on the PP I believe.

thanks guys...the "black fella" is me...and thats my friend joanna..the reason they are so processed is because like my other work is my style, the high contrast and "fake skin tones" as u say...thanks for checking em out tho...i will def look into the disfusion possibilities

You post those as a comparison, give me a break , The original
poster blows yours away.
no, his is full of a lot of PP, fake smiles, and a lot of PP. They don't blow mine away at all.

He also put full credit on the Sb-800 and nothing else... a point and shoot can do these kinds of shots well.
Get over yourself and take some pictures
worth posting. Out
Take some pictures of things I care about, then start to give me advice.

Nite,

I looked through your website and as a noob to both photography and PP I really liked everything. I saw that you had shots that were heavily PP'ed (like the ones here) and some that were more suitable to most people's tastes.

IMO, it's good to post shots like these bc it gives new photographers like myself a chance to see what can be done with both the camera and the computer (hey, we are in the digital age now!).

Thanks for posting,

Miguel

and to be honest the only thing that was done to the shots was an overlay and the use of the kodak gem plug in...other than that thats the sb800 and the d80

The one I recommended is going to do wonders for your club shots. Again, ensure you get the amber dome accessory for it - the skin tones are going to pop and look fantastic with 1/2 the PP work. I understand your "style/trademark" - nothing wrong with that. Some folks just have a thing about doctoring ;) If your clients like it and it's selling prints who gives a hoot. Best of luck.

We are talking about different forms of art. In my mind being a photographer is more then just taking pictures of people and making the things around them look good. It's about capturing the person. I like nite's flash - he's doing his thing for the crowd he's pleasing. The PP is necessary because the clients want pop and ping for the purpose of appeasing people who care about what's around them. The photos on your site are more art inspired IMHO capturing the person not the surroundings... just my opinion.

Check out this site: http://abetterbouncecard.com/

You can make a diffuser/bouncer for about pennies, try it and if you like it, try the other more expensive diffusers.

I have the Fong Lightsphere II, the sto-fen diffuser, the better bounce card and the better bounce card may be the best of the bunch...

I also think the sb800 has a diffusers built in that may help as well.

As you said, this is your style... it may not get approval from everyone, but who cares... it's your camera, your computer, and your time... so make the pics appeal to you.
