Very nice article - very thought provoking.
I sometimes find it difficult to look at the composition
as a whole and not concentrate on the subject.
Your article has helped me look at the entire composition
and consider those items that are important to final result.

Do you use the earlier shots in deciding how to compose or
were those shots just for illustrating the points in the article?

I could see where taking shots and looking at them before
returning to take some final shots could be very benefical.

I agree that taking some shots and reviewing them, then, returning to take a final shot could be helpful. However, I usually don't do it that way myself. The earlier shots were taken mainly to show where I had been. Also, in the back of my mind was the thought that I might end up using some of them in my articles at some point.
