Don't Jump Off the Nikon Ship Yet!

Sounds similar to shades of the Nikon D2x "focus issues" and the famed D2x back-focus. It's simple, if Nikon don't get off there butt soon, a LOT of pros are going to switch. We're sick and tire of waiting 3 or 4 years between PRO level bodies, and crappy high ISO noise.

Good for them,

I looked at your pictures and I'm not impressed and I'm not sure a nice camera would help or hurt you.

In fact if you're right A LOT of pro's should be buying that new mimiya (haha spelling) digital mf camera that's around 10k...

so I really don't see your point at all.

in other news, it depresses me when I think about what some people have done in the world, and here I am sitting on my butt talking about digital cameras... There are more important things I could be doing, and there are more important thigns going on in the world. Too bad we can't take all this energy and apply it to something useful.

Is anyone actually selling that Mamiya?

Just stating a fact... The D2x had focus issues when it first shipped. Funny how every one seems to forget that little fact. Also, don't insult others work, I did not insult yours, only the camera...

Guess we'll have to wait "2-weeks" and see what Nikon comes up with...

I was just going to post that link.

Yes, it's true, the grass isn't any greener elsewhere. All bodies have a learning curve, and many have problems with the new release.

As I've said before, I saw some pretty poor, and noisy shots coming from the MK III at the Sports Shooter Academy IV in April. This proved to me: It's the photographer dummy!

Actually, I am encouraged by all of this. I think the new Nikon offering will be fantastic, and I am happy to keep shooting with my dialed in D2X until then.

Plus, in the back of my mind, I hope some of the nimrods that jumped ship, and just HAD to tell everyone on this forum they were doing so, are taking a LONG HARD look in the mirror of shame. Slightly better hi iso performance and worse AF performance? Super!

Also, I don’t think that article mentioned this, but many are complaining about a severe softness problem in the 3 inch monitor on the MK III. It makes it very hard to judge sharpness in the field with the monitor. This is a major problem if true, and somewhat defeats the purpose of having the quick feedback of the monitor.

:)

Agreed. If you wanted to GIVE me a Canon and all of the lenses anyone would need, I would respectfully refuse it unless I could sell it right away to get Nikon stuff. I would have more use for a trainload of cow manure. If Nikon stops selling cameras, I would use my current equipment until it quits and then would probably stop taking images altogether or switch to Hasselblad.

While I am anxiously awaiting better ISO performance in the new Nikon(s), I would not take the AF problems in a swap for features.

The static subject issues the Mark III showed in Rob's report are just jaw-dropping in disappointment to me. How do you screw that up?
Noise can be coped with, but lousy AF is just intolerable.

not sure, but I do know if I did get something like that I'd expect to be making as much as I am now (doing photography) plus pay for that new equipment in a year. So far no one wants to pay me about $50k a year to take pictures...

The new camera is a very good camera. Even if you are the biggest Canon hater, you can't go around that.

However between very good and excellent is a big gap. For so far I heard from a PJ, I did not hear problems with AF, more from problems with camera - lens conbinations.

I think Nikon will put something against it, which is both price wise and quality wise very tempting. Just we have to wait :-)

First of all I agree with you. Secondly I asked if the ZD was shipping yet.

WHERE did I insult you? WHERE? I know the ZD had been long delayed and I would welcome it shipping.

As a users of both Nikon and Canon I see your post and have to laugh at your incredible smugness. People will use whatever tool they think is best for them. They are spending their money, not yours so who the heck are you to tell them? You also forget very quickly how out of the gate the D2X and D200 had issues also. Both great cameras and solid now. In a few months this will be gone as an issue. Then it will be Nikon turn and they will have bugs. If I was petty like this post I would bookmark this thread and post to it to bring it back to the top but I won't stoop down to your level.

I have to agree, I shoot both systems (and just got a k10 too)... all camera's seem to have some issue's from the get go... the question is do you want to be first in line to discover them or do you want to wait 6 months to have them worked out....

if your happy with Nikon, that's great, if your happy with your canon great too.... If you really have done your homework and think antoher brand may offer you an advantage... then go for it.
