H9 Firmware Question

Is it possible to download the firmware of an older H9 and compare
it to the firmware of a newer H9, to see if Sony quietly made
firmware changes?

To all Sony DSC-H9 users:

Need to know if your Sony H9 doesn't match properly the monitor's beautiful colors to the pictures (files), when set in AUTOMATIC MODE (green camera icon on dial). I see bright crisp colors on my monitor, but when I see the actual files, the colors are very dull and not bright at all. Very washed. It's not a problem with my computer because I have Sony H previous models and I don't have this problem with them.

I went to the Sony store to exchange it, just in case it was a problem with the model I purchased, and that model (new) too had the same problem. Also borrowed my friend's H9 and he too has the same problem.

I waited months for this camera and I'm so dissapointed with this that I will sadly return it. I haven't heard of anyone online complaining about this. Is it a camera glitch no one has noticed? Or am I doind something wrong. I did a camera RESET, read the entire manual, did several tests, and nothing seems to remove this problem from the camera.

Would LOVE to know if you are having this problem too, before I return the camera.

Your prompt replies to [email protected] would be greatly appreciated, as I have to return my camera this week.

Thank you!!!

When you say the colors look bright on your monitor, you mean the lcd screen on the camera? I am getting good results as far as color is concerned. The software that you are using to view your files on the computer is the same as with your previous cameras? How do older files from your previous cameras look with your current set up on the computer?

Sorry! To hear you are having a problem. I just took 72 pictures at a School Graduation in Auto Mode and had them printed at a nearby photo shop. All pictures were clear, all colors were correct, and the pictures look the same on my monitor.

It sounds like you are looking at all of your pictures on the same monitor. I suggest looking at them on a monitor at a friend's house. If you still see a problem, then I'm stumped. Maybe others here can identify the problem.

All the best,
Jim

To all Sony DSC-H9 users:
You'd probably get more responses if you started a new thread.

Be sure to include your camera's LCD Brightness setting, the in-camera Contrast, Color, and Sharpening settings. The Software you are using to evaluate the images in-computer, the Color Space (sRGB, aRGB, etc) that your software is set to, your type of Monitor (LCD or CRT), if it has been Calibrated (at least for brightness and contrast). And also what settings your previous H-Series were set to.

When you say "Monitor," you mean the LCD display on the camera? ("Monitor" generally refers to your computer monitor).
when set in AUTOMATIC MODE (green camera icon on dial).

You really can't judge an image from its appearance on the camera's LCD display. The display can give you a general sense of what the image looks like, but it's not a true representation. Generally, the H-Series pumps up the LCD display's Brightness, Contrast, and Saturation.
but when I see the actual files, the colors are very dull
and not bright at all. Very washed.
Try turning down the camera LCD's brightness. Or change the in-camera Color, Contrast, and Sharpening settings.
It's not a problem with my

this problem with them.
If your color space is set wrong (for instance to Adobe RGB), and you're shooting in sRGB, then you'll get exactly what you're describing.

You might want to calibrate your computer monitor anyway if you haven't recently (at least the brightness/contrast)...

I really don't think it's a model problem.

Regardless of how they look in-camera (and how that compares to how they look on the computer), are the images similar to the ones from the previous H-Series?
I haven't heard of anyone online

And have you tried loading them on your friend's computer?
Or am I doind something wrong. I did a camera RESET, read the

Post a new thread Mariel, and maybe you'll get more takers.

Good luck,
