A630 + Sanyo Eneloop NMH battery test

I'm in South Africa and we don't seem to have the range of rechargeables you get overseas. I haven't seen the Eneloops on sale yet, but I guess they'll come along at some point, at some ridiculous price!

Currently using Uniross 2500 mAh in my A640. They give me around 500 shots/charge and seem to last about 4 weeks without any significant drop. I can live with it but the long shelf life is attractive.

I use Sanyo 2700 mAh in my A640. During the first 20 days or so, they will yield as many as 1100+ shots (heavy use of flash, LCD always on, some zooming, lots and lots of reviewing, download of every single image to my PC). However, if I am using them for 40 days, the number of shots goes down to 800. Of course, this is not really shelf-life I am talking about; I am not leaving the batteries unused: I am using them during a certain period. Still, not bad, I think.

Hi All

Thank you ALL for the information regarding your experiences with NMH batteries.

It seems everybody is satisfied with the performance of the new generation of long "shelf" life NMH batteries. It's always good to learn of other brands (Rayovac,Panasonic), one can use also.

To repeat myself (from original post), I know that the eneloop NMH DO hold their charge (85 %) even after a full year, and I'm sure the other brands mentioned are of equal performance. It's always good to have choices !!!!

I'm so glad I'm not burdened with the constant "topping-up" of the standard NMH's every few weeks. I've replaced all my older standard type NMH with these new .....charge 'em and forget 'em types.

thanks again for all your informative posts !!!
