I am about to Buy New alfa or should I wait for new model. Any one have any Idea when is coming new.
thanks
Regards

Sony announced at least one model for 2007 perhaps in the autumn.

However they will be different class i.e very different price. Add to this that Sony will probably hold the price up for at least 3 to 6 months for the new camera. So it will be at least the price of D200 plus 20% to 30% after launch

So it depends on your needs if you want to get more advanced then Alpha 100 camera regardless of price it may be worth waiting.

nineties. I almost bought one but found out the insurance cost more than the car!

Can anyone tell me; who owns Alfa now? Are they still producing?

For a number of years I had the fortune of test driving some of these very nice cars for a national daily newspaper back in the 80'es.

At the time, Alfa Romeo was in a terrible mess after a very unhappy venture in which they mass-manufacture the rather cheap Alfasud model for some years.

The manufacturing plant for these cars was built with a lot of EU substirution in the very south of Italy (far, far from Alfa's hometown Milano), no skilled labour was to be found in the region, major materials were 2nd grade (one door literally rusted off in only two years) etc. etc.

So around 1986, Ford and Fiat were fighting over Alfa Romeo. At some point, Ford seemed to have signed the deal, but in the end the very special Italian kind of diplomacy (we have an offer you can't refuse...) brought the company to Fiat.

Since then, Fiat has been a very good owner for the Alfa brand, I would say. The market presence of Alfa Romeo is much greater now, and the brand have moved somewhat away from the granddad-segment, more towards the aspiring-young-professionals segment...

My personal Alfa favourite, btw, will always be the early 60'es Guilietta (Italian spelling for 'little Julia'):

Tweedle, she has the turbid glance. Maybe an AF problem...

and these cars are tiny !!

I love and admire the looks , but would probably never have fit into one.
Italian design is sooo special.

Sony has been pretty aggressive in its pricing strategy, so it may well be cheaper than the D200 when it is announced. Since the Alpha 100 price has fallen, perhaps the new high amateur model will be introduced at $999.99. The Pro model will likely cost around $3,000 or more if it is full frame.

I agree. It is always a good idea to wait if at all possible when shopping for electronics. Prices will usually keep falling and performance will keep improving, especially when there is competition. Right now there is intense competition among Sony, Canon, Nikon, Pentax and even Olympus for the DSLR buyer's dollars.
