I am posting so that can people will be aware if comtemplatimg bidding from the seller. This is the description ...

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=110125766650&rd=1&rd=1

I got this ...

For a small amount of money, I thought what the heck! Description certainly implied that it is ok but may need repair. That's fine. But no where does it give one the idea of the shocking condition of the front lens.

Was I cheated? Do you think this seller really did not know about the horrible state of the item as she repeated so many times? Was she artistically deceptive?

Sorry man. You got taken. I can't help but notice the "skillful" way the seller took a picture of the lens (front) and didn't show ANY of the carnage of the front element. Even someone who has never used a camera would say something to the effect that the front glass was cracked and scratched all to hell. The seller said, "... It is possible that it is fine..." How can a lens that looks like that POSSIBLY be "fine"!? Luckily you didn't pay that much. Consider the price you paid, the price for the lesson learned. I have bought and sold MANY lenses on ebay, and if I can't see the glass to my satisfaction from the pics I always ask about the elements (fungus, haze, scratches etc.) Always ask too, and try to steer clear of "All sales final" listings especially when it comes to glass. Another lens will come along sooner or later.

"It is possible that it is fine" they've got to be kiding. Yep, you've been had. Personally, I'd take it up with e-bay myself. You can also report negative on the feedback. Parts only is fair enough if the parts are actually usable as spares; there's no way that anyone dealing in camera pieces can look at the front of that lens and possibly deem it as "posible that it is fine." You could also hold the seller responsible for damage in transit through improper packing if they say that it left them fine.

I agree, though, asking questions for more detailed pictures is the way to go with lenses on e-bay, then you've got more solid comeback if the pics show a fine lens and it arrives heavily damaged.

Depends on what it is worth to you to take it further; there have been rare occasions where it has cost me money, but I've considered it personally worthwhile to persue it. In terms of money, I don't think you'd get a lot of buck back for your effort in this case, though.

I'm not even sure she is "she". Just look at her hand on the photo.

Thanks for the warning anyway.

Wow, that's truly horrible..! What a scammer. And look at the feedback, mountains and mountains of camera equipment sold all attributed to her late husband's estate, rriiiiigggghhhht.

The description sounds like a generic one for all the as-is stuff they're selling. True, they should have taken a picture of the front element, but considering they call it a 'parts' lens, if the rest of the lens is fine it could serve it's purpose. Maybe you can find one with a broken rear element or cracked body and put together a working one.

Did you mount it and take any pictures with it? Just wondering how that would affect the image...

Hi Michelle

Already escalated with PayPay.

"As is" generally means not tested for defects and that you take your chances weith imperfections. However, in this case there is a blatant misrepresentation as to the condition and quality of the item. This is plain dishonest! I dont know much about lenses ... but is dropping it in a mudpool ok? I'd take it up with ebay, the seller (the manhanded woman). You mightnt see any $ back but worth reporting. Sorry dude.

Considering the state of the ME she is selling it would probably have been a good idea to keep away.

Mind you I think she has misrepresented by omitting to say that there was obvious damage. I would put in a complaint and give her a big red mark for feedback and be thankfull it was only a few bucks, probably not worth spending too much of your time chasing her down.

At least you got the item, one camera that I paid for I never received and when I gave bad feedback she complained, that one is no longer in business though.

I actually met a guy at a car boot sale recently, he was about 70 or so and had a mountain of camera gear for sale, got chatting with him and he has been collecting older gear for ages and has some amazing stuff amongst about 1,000 cameras. Going over to have a look through his Pentax stuff soon, says I can have it very cheap, just happy for it to go to someone that will appreciate it.

Cheers.

LinCam,

I'm sure she and her potential clients (in their own way) might find this thread very interesting. Can you leave a link to this thread on her feedback page?

Good luck
Alex

It's BS! A scammer like that deserves to be taken down. That person has been misleading clear as day. What about the bit about clearing the out the late husband's estate? How plausible is that? Not. Just selling photographic junk for sure. OK, you didn't pay much but the principle matter is they were misleading. Make sure your feedback tells it as it is.

Hi Brett

Good to hear from you again. I have told her stop pretending and all the BS of "I don't know". She pretended to be offended ofcourse ... said "HOW DARE YOU ...." and I repeated it immediately.

Small amount of money but really put off by people like that out to cheat you and I thought people in the forum should know about this.

Cheers
