As a proud owner and user of an original Pentax Spotmatic, and one contemplating purchase of the K10D, I would jump at a chance to get one of the 50th Anniversary models.

Message to Pentax: if you BIULD IT, they will come (at least I will).
 
Since Hoya now owns Pentax, and they are a direct competitor to Asahi, I don't think you will see any product like this. I would think Hoya wasn't too happy about the announcement, but I believe it was (just) before they took control of Pentax.
