I just bought an Xti and a 17-55. I also have a 420ex and I intend on getting a 70-300 or a 7--200L IS. I am going to take it to Europe and want something that is small comfortable to carry and can hold the two lenses, flash and a few accessories. I have a small Tamrac 704 and it's just a little too small . I also have a larger Sherpa and a large North Face camera bag so I don't need something for growth. The Sherpa will hold things nicely but 14"x11"x8" is a little too large and heavy.

I used to go down to the local camera store in town but they closed a few months ago. I guess they couldn't compete with the low priced internet retailers.

Have a look at the Lowepro Nova 3 or Stealth Reporter D200. The Lowepro website has pretty good pictures of the bags and shows what you can fit in them.

Get a bigger one than you think that you need or you will find yourself looking for a new bag again six months from now.

Even the Slingshot 100 hold an amazing amount of kit & is very compact.

I have in mine -

400d with battery grip

70-300mm Sigma APO

17-70mm Sigma

28-105mm Canon

Metz Flashgun

Battery charger + cable

Spare body caps

cleaning pen + blower brush + Cloths

Spare 4 x AA batteries for flash

Flash diffusers X 2

Remote

4 x Cf cards

Spare battery grip 6 x AA's power pack

Yes it's tight but easy to carry & I can fit any of the above lenses & it still fits in.

Brilliant bag

I will be getting a LowePro Slingshot 200 AW soon for mine I've looked at others, and this one seems to be my personal favorite when it comes down to size, useability, and carrying capacity. I took a look at the 100 AW, and it seemed like things would be cramped.

Any way of you to take a pic of your set up? I was concerned that the 100 AW would be too small for all of that.

I don't have any online picture thing but I would be happy to email you some if that is any help.

You might want to take a look at the Tamrac 5605 Pro 5 camera bag ( http://www.tamrac.com/5605.htm )

I don’t know how well this bag would be for traveling outside of the US as far as the security of it goes, but I find that it works great for my day-to-day uses and local traveling around the state. It may also be a little bigger than you are looking for (11¾ W x 8 D x 12 H). For me, I love this bag. It looks a little more like a large lunch bag than a camera bag (especially with the accessory water bottle attached), which I appreciate. It is also designed to slide over the handle of your luggage so it’s easy to get around with it when you do travel. I like the way it is compartmentalized and I have everything under the sun in it (and them some) and it handles it well. Amazon has it for $59.95, but I bought mine new from E-Bay for $40 from a private party.

I have the following items in mine and there is still a little room to spare:

In the main compartment:
XTI
Kit lens
Canon EF 70-300mm (which can be left attached to the camera
and still fit comfortably)
Battery grip
580EX Speedlite (in it’s case)
Extra filters

In the Side pockets:
extra camera battery and recharger
12 Enloop AA batteries and recharger
Sensor & lens cleaners (including large rocket blower)
8 CF cards
XTI and Speedlite manuals
Assorted other things such as Ziploc bags, hand cleaner wipes, etc.
And then I throw in my cell phone whenever I head out the door.

Internal Dimensions: 9W x 6½ D x 10¼ H
23 x 17 x 26 cm
External Dimensions: 11¾ W x 8 D x 12 H
30 x 20 x 30 cm
Weight: 2 lb. 5 oz. (1049 g)

Just a thought.
Enjoy your trip,
Sherry

I feel like such a thread pusher, but hey....it's relevant...

I have the Tamrac Expedition 3. The size, when I don't have a tripod lashed on or the large M.A.S lens case hooked on, is very unassuming and fairly compact. Plus, the 70-200 2.8L IS fits whilst attached to my XT body.

There are pictures demonstrating this in my thread.

Hope this is helpful.

My favourite travel bag is the domke f3x. It will hold a camera with grip, a medim sized zoom (17-55) attached, plus two other lenses (including the 70-200) in the main compartment. On the front there is an accesorie pocket and on the side there are two extra pockets which i use for travel essentials (maps, passport, water bottle etc ...) this bag has a very unassuming exterior and it has a sort of soft and squishy disign so it sits agains your body insdead of bouncing off your hip. Best of all if it get dirty, its even machine washable. The domke f6 is also nice. It's about the same size but the intereior is designed a bit differently, it holds more lenses but there is less room for travel stuff. These bag are a bit more pricy then others, but are much better quality, i've had my f3x for 11 years, its traveled all around the world, been machine washed 6 times and its still in perfect condition.
