1DIII - Portrait test pic

Louis,

What were you're camera-settings ? Did you use the 'standard' picturestyle with the sharpness on 3 ?

For my understanding; is the choise of the picturestyle seen in the raw-file or does it only takes
effect on jpeg ?

Your right Victor, this used to fool me too. I know to look for it now.
I see it sometimes when visiting this board. It's from the text. If
you do a lot of reading of posts, you eyes adjust to the levels of
the text. After reading the text for a while, if you view a
picture, you see banding at the same frequency as the text was. In
other words, the banding is in your eyes, not the picture.

If I remember correctly, the picture style was set to 'Portrait' but I do not think it does something when you shoot in RAW.

RAW files are completly unprocessed by the camera. The picture style gets written in the RAW file though so you can apply it using the Canon software.

Well, I did not do the UltraSharpFilter(tm) that many web user seems to like.

Also, as I said, it's a direct RAW conversion with a bit of sharpen in ACR. My goal was not to make a publishable image put to show an ISO 100 image and how it looks like directly out of camera (as opposed to the many threads with exemples at ISO 1600+). Remember that RAW files are always a bit soft.
